i think its hard to say considering that there still is no "official" launch line-up. are both models capable of that out of box..yes. will we see games that support 1080p?? yes. when??? i dunno. the $499 to the best of my knowledge will be able to play games at 1080p via component cables just not movies

it will be able to play 1080p on games for sure, but movies.. well movies are another story. if the movie studios dont enacts ICT soon that you can still watch your movie in 1080p thru componant. the latest they said ICT would be active is 2012. what ICT does is downgrades the 1080p signal for something in the 500 range to prevent piracry. it only does this for analog signals. after ICT, hdmi will be required for any movies released after its enaction.
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

It will be able to, but the vast majority of games running at e3 were displayed in 720p. Some developers are working to get it to 1080p, but don't expect every game to run at 1080p at launch.
But in a few years, I'm sure it won't be the case.

Game developers wil have to ask the question: How many people who buy the PS3 will also have a 1080p capable display?
The first batch of SXRD's could not even accept 1080p thru HDMI although the newer 2006 models should be able to.

ps3=$630 with tax
2 gms=$125 with tax(at price of $59.99 per game)
extra controller=$50-$60 (lets say $55)
1080p televison=$3,150 with tax for a decent sized t.v(35 inches)
internet service=free online play but undetermined on how much the general fee will be for web browsing and all other features.
1 Blu-ray movie=$41 with tax
total=$4,001
Total price ^ to enjoy your ps3 in a way that says its even one iota better than the 360 graphically which is the point of having the system run in 1080p is it not?
xbox 360=$420
wireless adapter=$105(just for kicks and giggles since top end ps3 comes with built in wi-fi
2gms=$125
play and chagre kit for controller=$20
extra controller=$52
xbox live gold=$52
regular dvd=$21
EXCELLENT HDTV capable of all resolutions EXCEPT 1080p=Sony 50" HDTV (KDF-E50A10) $2,100
total=$2,895
total price ^ to enjoy your xbox 360 at its MAXIMUM potential graphically and otherwise.
total savings of=1,106 for sacrificing 1080p.Granted 1080p will look better but not that much better and being as it will be a while before any of the prices of these products drop my figures are DAMN accurate.Plus ps3 gms will likely cost more as well as their controllers and i left the online service completely free and added the play and charge kit to the xbxo 360 side.
Is it really worth it? i know some people dont have hdtv's but if your going to spend all the money to start off with why not enjoy whar your paying for which is mainly the graphical upgrade.I dont want to start anything just laying it out for all to see

but seriously, dont be ignorant.. who buys a brand new 1080p capable HDTV just for their ps3? its unheard of beyond the unhealthly rich.

80% of people who were planning on buying an xbox 360 who didnt already own an HDTV went and bought one mainly for gaming but as you will justify the purchase i dont want to argue.Im not saying thats the only reason one would buy the 1080p tv becasue of course its great for tv as well but when spending so much on a console that is boasting its graphical power its kinda moronic not to get its potential.
