Hi,
I finished installing my Duo2 modchip on my v7 ps2. When I go to play a game (backed up or original), I get the disc read error. It sounds as if (figurativley and literally) the disc isn't spinning. When I insert a disc, it makes the same sound as when the tray is open. Prior to the chip, it made a revving sound.
I installed everything correctly with the chip; I triple checked all my connections and made sure that no pads were touching. Does anyone know a solution to this?
Thanks in advance!

Check the modchip connections to make sure that they're good and no connections are bridged.

I desoldered the entire chip and taped the ends, and it still won't work.

So, do you get the red screen or the one where it doesn't get past the browser screen? It sounds as if it is trying to read it, so it's probably spinning allright. Also try loading a ps1 game and a dvd movie to see what happens.

I don't get the red screen...after about 5 seconds in the browser menu, it says disc read error. The lens works, but it definatley won't spin. It doesn't make the sound it used to, doesn't vibrate like it used to, and the disc ejects in the exact same position that it was inserted in every time. The motor works though, because when I try it with the entire thing disassembled, but the drive in tact with the top removed and the lens covered, it spins about 4 times.

Try it with different discs to see if you can get something to load. Maybe check the fuses to see if one has blown. Something went wrong during the install, so go over everything with a multimeter and a magnifying glass.

The laser is fine, it moves up and down once when it is obstructed, and doesn't move when it is clear. My question is, how do I get the disc to spin again?????

It sounds as if the motor isn't getting the signal or the power to spin. I would say that there has to be a short some where or a bad connection. A random drip off of the soldering iron can be hell, and hard to find. It's also possible that some of the wire leads are long and touching another component; I've seen that more than once.
