Well i'm new to the whole ps2 mod thing and i have a few questions.. i've tryed to search for the awnsers before i start posting but i couldnt find the awnsers..
ok first question.. i'm seeing alot of the methods on how to keep the pstwo (ver 14) from thinking you are opening the door.. straw and tissue method and such are thise still needed if you get one of the flip top things? my guess is no but i wanna be sure
ok 2nd question.. is the main reason for the straw and such meathods because they dont void warranty?
3d.. what is the best(most compatable) non-modchip method? swap magic 3.8? i was looking at... i think it was USBextreme but then saw somewhere that its only compatable with like 60% of games
4 anyone gotta link to the newest SM version i keep seeing online stores selling 3.3 ot 3.6 have seen any with 3.8 (better yet would be a combo with SM and a fliptop thing (altho mine has the metal thing next to the left hinge making the straw method the one i would have to use and i'm not sure if any of the fliptops would have a issus with that.. i dont really think they would but you guys would know better then I.
if anyone have any suggestions on some other form of mod let me know.. i would like to put a true chip in it.. but 20+ soddering points kinda scares me.. i did put a mod chip in my xbox and LOVE it.. but it was sodderless =)
1. No, the aftermarktet fliptop will do all the work
2. Yes, since u have to opeen the new verison of ps2, there is no point to use SM if u can/have the abililty to put a mod chip in it.
3. If u are goind without a mod chip, SM is by far the best method of booting backuos. Sm is a pain in the ass at times, but the other methods are bigger ones.
4. only difference between 3.8 and 3.6 is that it allows u to use codes, kinda like a Gameshark. Heres a link to where I got my v14 fliptop/SM combo.
Of course a mod chip would be the best sloution, like u, the amount of solder points scared me, and SM works great(swapping disks gets annoying after a while though.)
thanks for the reply svtstang .. i'll problem end up with a mod chip... and just send it out and have it done.. (about $120) man.. thats about what i paid for the PStwo, thats the issue right now.. $120 bucks to do it right or like the link you gave me.. 30 bucks to just get it to work.. well that and i would have to be without my PStwo from probly a week or so..
oh also i was seeing something about the slim PStwos needing a laser fix board put in it to save the laser from burning it self up.. is that needed in the v14? i think i saw somewhere that only the v12's need it, that the 13,14's were fixed to start with now..
No prob, glad I could help. I am lke u, i got my ps2 for about $80, so I was kinda over paying over $100 to get a chip installed, especially whne the fliptop/SM combo is $30, and works perectly. With regards to the laser fix, it is not needed on V14, but if u plan to play the ps2 to hell it might be a good idea somewhere down the line. Also, do ur laser a problem adn use good media such as taiyo tuden or verbartim:)
