psp 2.0 upgrading help

i've been running a 1.5 psp for quite awhile, and decided to update to 2.0 for a lil while to toy around with it. i've upgraded and downgraded a couple times before, but it wouldnt let me update for some reason this time. it would run the update program, but there would be no text and just an "X" and "O" button icon on the bottom. thinkin that my 1.5 firmware is somehow messed up, i thought updating to 2.0 from 1.52 would work instead. i updated to 1.52 w/o text flawlessly, but i have the same problem with trying to update to 2.0. with updating to 2.0, all i have is the circle icon on the bottom which wont do anything except exiting the update.

i've also formatted my memory stick and downloaded the 2.0 firmware from multiple sites (pspupdates and psp-hacks).

restoring system settings doesnt work. i used one of my friends umds to try to update to 2.0, but to no prevail.
