Does this game work with HD 1 or does one need to apply something toxic like Gran Turismo 4 ?

Umm, no. All the information is NOT there.
That site is notorious for not being updated in a timely manner.
It has info for the British version of this game only. Unfortunately, there is no info on the US version (which, incidentally, I was looking for on that site before I turned to Afterdawn to search the forums.)
Please don't be so condescending, especially when the site itself isn't very helpful for some of us in this case.

Ok, first of all, I don't know where you got the idea that I'm being condescending from, but ok...
It has info for the UK version, since we know that the major difference between the UK and US version is the video format, and not the game itself, common sense tells us that if the game works without any modes for the UK version, chances are it'll work for the US version too.
And to be quite honest, there's no harm in trying if the game works with HDLoader before knowing what mode to use. Worst case scenario is that the game won't load. Unless you've tried to use no mode for the game, like the UK version suggested, and had no luck with it, I'm not sure what gave you the right to say that I'm being condescending when I'm only trying to help out here :)

Plan b.
I discovered exploit on one of my memory cards I hadnt used for yonx. Popped in the relevant original PS1 game. It seems to play most games quite merrily via the HDD Winhiip assisted. Should I update data on memcard in order to interprit
Blood Money and if so....how ?

One must not make this assumption. A quick scan of that site can turn up game after game where different versions of the same title are NOT similarly compatible.
I agree that you're trying to help, and I think it's a very kind gesture on your part. However, please realize that folks like myself like complete information. Generalities and assumptions are not suitable in case such as this, where (for some of us) there truly are questions that remain unanswered about this title.
I hope that you understand my point of view a bit better, and were not offended.

When the information is not complete, you have to take what you can get. No need to be so picky man. Everyone here is just trying to help you out using their known knowledge. If somebody here knew for sure that the US version worked, you probably would've gotten a reply. You don't have to call anyone condescending as the only person that sounds rude is you. I don't mean to insult you in anyway, but you need to lighten up bro. Besides, you could always test it out and fiddle with it. After all, it's what most people do anyway. What's the worst that could happen? :)
The way I do it, I only come to the forums after all my known sources of information have been fully used. And one of those sources is testing stuff out myself.
BTW, the PAL version of the game has an included selector with which you can choose what format your TV is in. If you want to use that version, when the menu comes up, press down (NTSC is the second option on the list, with 480p as third if your TV supports that), then X and your screen should be in NTSC format natively. No patches needed here! Although you have to do that every time you load the game. But that's a minor shortcoming. The game more than makes up for the selector. ;)
PS2 V9 with Custom Flip Top
MC Exploit
ULaunchELF 3.78
HDLoader 0.8a with 160Gb Maxtor HDD
Nintendo GameCube DOL-001
XenoGC 2.0
POTS adjusted to 400Ohms from 496Ohms and runs everything thrown at it
If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.
