I burned a mpeg video to a cd-r and when I tried to play it on my dvd player it didn't work but it works on my computer.

Does your home dvd player support VCD, SVCD?
Did you encode(convert) the mpeg(VCD, SVCD) video before you burned to a cd-r?
VCD= MPEG1
SVCD= MPEG2
