To simplify:

Set up your hard disk with two partitions. Never install two OSes to the same partition.

Install your oldest OS first.
For Windows:
95
98
ME
2000
XP
2003
Vista

Let's say you're going to do 98/XP.

Install 98 to the first partition, finish up with all the device drivers and such, make sure it's stable (as 98 could be).
Install XP to the second partition. After initial setup finishes, you will have a startup menu to choose which OS you want. XP setup will choose for you until XP has completed it's installation.

If you are going to do a Windows/Linux setup.

Create one partition on the drive, leave the rest of the disk "empty".

Install XP. Finish as usual.
Choose your Linux distro, and during setup, choose to install to the empty space left on the drive. Then, you can choose to have the boot loader on floppy, or use a boot loader like GRUB.

Yes i am doing it at the moment with Windows XP PRO and Susie Linux 10.

I used partition magic to split my HDD in to two halfs then leave one blank (when u install the sencond OS it will format to the right filing system) dont format the one windows is on lol, Then used boot magic to chose witch OS u boot up with, Then install your OS normaly.

OK?

P.S U DO NOT NEED TO USE BOOT MAGIC IF U R INSTALLING LINUX 10 I THINK, BUT JUST TO MAKE SURE SOME ON ELSE PLZ COMFIRM THAT.

P.P.S U will need a fat or fat32 filing system to use boot magic
juat make a small partition using partition magic about 40MB be for u install boot magic

P.P.P.S let me know how u got on
