Good AVI editor

I would like to use an AVI editor that is easy to use. I have a 13 GB .AVI file that is created from a miniDV tape. I would like to cut them, save some and discard some parts and then create a DVD.
I tried few shareware stuff but none worked. I tried Nero Ultra but I received an error message from Nero Vison Express.
Can anyone suggest to edit that big file and split into several small files?

Virtual dub!
Try this guide, youll lose no quality and itll be fast.

For burning it to dvd you can use something like avi2dvd, though there are many other ways out there, try the guides section of this site.

If you want to add a menu and transitions and such i suggest doing all this with a video editing program such as pinnacle or windvd creator. I believe you can get a free trial of both.
