Last weekend my sister in law came to stay and intsalled Theme Hospital on our PC. Ever since then, the only sound we can get from the computer is the "System completed power on self test" that happens when the machine starts up and the music within the game itself.

I've tried uninstalling Theme Hospital, going through Windows update and installing all essential and non essential downloads, going through the windows sound troubleshooter, downloading the latest version of Media player and Direct X but nothing has solved the problem. Even sounds like epmtying the Recycle Bin don't play. WMP and the Last FM player both show that they're playing but we get no sound from them.

I've tried playing other games and there's no audio playback what so ever when theyre running. So, in desperation, I've just re-installed Theme Hospital. Noticably, there is no audio in any of the intro sequences (but is there supposed to be?) but the very annoying music in the main part of the game plays just fine.

Ny default audio device is displayed as NVIDIA(R)nForce(TM)Audio.

Can anyone please help? I am totally stuck.

Go into Device Manager. Uninstall the sound drivers/card. Reboot. Windows will see the audio device as new hardware. Install the drivers. Should fix the problems.

Perfect! Thank you so much.

It's only easy when you know the answer.

Cheers!
