I do not know if this is legal to ask in this forume but i just want to ask if any body can help me of how to copy Windows XP SP2 from the original disc becouse the one i have it is getting really scratched ?
Microsoft states that you are not allowed to create illegal copies of the OS disk. However, one backup copy of the softare IS allowed. It's in the EULA.
Section 1 of the EULA:
Quote:* Storage/Network Use. You may also store or install a copy
of the Product on a storage device
A CD is a storage device.
To point out as well, the XP CD is not copy protected...therefore no cracking software or other third party programs are needed.
Making a backup copy of your software is legal, thus fits into the forum rules...at least my interpretation of them.

To copy your XP CD.
Place in CD drive, go to Explorer. Click on the CD, press CTRL A to select all and copy to a folder on your hard drive.
Simple enough. To create a bootable CD, you'll need a copy of the boot files which can be found at several help sites including those from Microsoft themselves, or others like:
Bink's site is an MS site (unofficial of course), he is an MVP and MSDN subscriber...uses MS software explicitly, and the site is monitored by MS itself. If that was not allowed, trust me it would have been taken down a long time ago.
You can also use Nero, or any such software, to make a 1:1 backup of your original disk. I actually just did it about 3 minutes ago for my slightly aged and beat up XP SP1a CD.
@ The-Fiend-I dont really see this as copy protection circumvention or cracking. Like Morph said, the EULA allows one backup to a storage medium. (not trying to start a battle here with ya....just voicing my opinion)
So, if you LEGALLY own a copy of XP, a backup is completely withing the users rights.
