This is a new one... I successfully burned two movies, "Hostel" and "Fun with Dick and Jane". The disca were showing a full capture on the burned side. I went to play each movie and BOTH reacted the same.
The movies picked up about 4 minutes prior to the end of the movies. I never had a beginning or anything else - just the end???? How can I play the rest of the movies or what happened???? Ronnies

Hi ronnies
Both of these discs have the newer copy protection on the - Sony ARccOS.
What did you use and how did you back these up?

the easiest way to get both movies to work is (not the extras or deleted scenes but the whole movie) to download them via file sharing look for 700 - 730mb, save to hard drive until u get around 5 movies then burn to dvd using a burning program Nero 6 or higher works good. if it is only one movie u want then in Nero just go to cd data and burn movie and then get a media player i use vlc www.videolan.org thats pretty good and then open and play.

Hello Binky7: I had to decrypt both movies. I used "DVDFAB" and then used "DVD Decrypter". I had to jostle these around several times before I got them to "encode". I thought that I had a clean burn - I was duly surprised. I guess it's no more "Sony" movies for backup...
M.K. I do not have the program "DVD Copy". I guess that's what you are refering to? Thank you for all of your interest as usual.
Binky7, I had all the files downloaded into a file that I created called "DVD". I tried to burn them at a 4X speed - thinking the speed may have been wrong ( used 8X on the two movies", but I had the same response. The entire beginning of the movies were missing...

Hi Ronnies
Make sure you are using the latest version of DVDFab decrypter - 2.9.7.9 as johnstarr pointed out. Decrypter can't handle them alone w/o some plug ins.
For extra assurance if you like after you rip them you can run them thru vobblanker (free). Here's a guide from alkohol. Follow it & you should be good.
You'll still be able to do Sony or Macrovison protected movies. I did both of these with AnyDVD & CloneDVD.

Hello Binky7: I just got another problem added into this mess. My son was messing with "Nero Vision Express 3" last night and since I keep getting error messages "Dvd Shrink encountered an error and must shut down etc." Would it serve me better uninstall this "Nero" version and install "Nero Version 6.6.0.18"? If so what are the uninstall procedures and reinstall the "Nero 6.6.0.18" procedures?
Perhaps that's part of my problem? Thanks Ronnies
P.S. didn't appreciate the caustic reply by "Rob 1026" there was a program called "DVD Copy" getting carried away with all this other frustration, just got caught up in it..... Ronnies

When is shrink giving you that error? Is it when you're trying to do a movie? This is a error that Shrink can give when it can't handle the movie/files. Not always but easiest to fix ;)
I think the Nero Vision and Shrink problem are unrelated maybe :)
Which version of Nero are you currently using?

I had the same problem the movie would start almost at the end. I think it was the media I was using because I bought staples brand dvds and almost all of them were acting up the same way. I switched to sony and no problems since.

Good point mickey73!
Yep staples ain't the best media wise.
For some of the newer copy protections if not ripped/processed correctly you can get weird playback - blank spots - begin in the middle etc too.

Hello Binky: the Nero version that I can find is "Nero Start Smart". It came bundled with the "HPDVD740" burner. I don't know where to look for any other definitive "Nero Version" numbers? Two movies that I just tried to backup weere "The Last Wave" (1977) and "All that Jazz" (1979), on BOTH I encountered the error "encountered and error and can't continue..." I normally get the older movies to function. Both were encrypted and I used both "DVDFab" and "DVD Decrypter" which both were encrypted, but to no avail - somethings wrong.... Ronnies

Binkie7: you mentioned "DVDFAB Decrypter 2.9.7.9" Where can I download this program? Can I just install it over the existing "DVDFAB" program or would I have to uninstall the older version? Thanks Ronnies

@ronnies
In Nero Smart Start in the bottom right hand corner you'll see a icon that has what looks like a flame in it - Nero Product Center. Click on it and you can see your version #'s there.
The last version of Nero6 to autoburn w/ Shrink is 6.6.0.18.

Now for Shrink - yep problem there somewhere. Shrink should be able to handle those 2 movies on it on.
So uninstall Shrink - run a registry cleaner then reinstall Shrink. You may have a conflict somewhere.
Here's a free registry cleaner that other members here have used:
http://www.ccleaner.com/
Here's a link to re download Shrink:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_...

When using Shrink no multitasking and shut down any unneccessary processes.
Try this and let's see if that takes care of it. Keep us posted!
