just recently i realised that some of my backups are not working on my pstwo slimline. since i got it modded at the shop, i assume its a green dot chip. it displays v1.39 at boot up so that must be my current firmware version. to solve my problem, i tried to upgrade it to the latest version (v1.88) using the bootup disk. the disk boot up well but as soon as i pressed the start button to start the upgrading process, the screen stuck at programming 0%. at first i leave it for 2 hours just to be safe but there's no hope and i dont think its gonna be that long wait anyways. i reset my pstwo and it works fine without burning up my chip so i assume its not a fake one. booting up backups works normally only the firmware remain not upgraded. however, the ilogo somehow installed, so its displayed during the bootup now. tried another lower version firmware v1.45 and this time the upgrading fails but doesnt affect my firmware at all. tried again this time with v1.68 and its stuck at the main upgrade screen.

i know its a lengthy one by hope anyone care enough to solve my problem in upgrading my matrix infinity, thanks :)

Ok for starters, be 100% sure that you have a real Matrix Infinity, because if you don't and you try to upgrade it, you will fry the chip.

I assume there is where you got your firmware from: http://www.infinitymod.com/cgi-bin/matrix/site.pl?page=infinity_s...

It's pretty straight forward to upgrade the firmware:
1) Burn the .cue file to a CD using Nero/Alcohol 120%/whatever you use to burn CDs
2) Put the CD in your PS2, press reset to turn it on
3) Select upgrade and let it do its job

thanks for the reply. so far my chip is still working after few attempts of upgrading the firmware. still it remains not upgraded. the upgrade cd boots fine but as soon as i press the start button to start the upgrading process, the screen freezes at programming 0%. reset my pstwo and its back to normal, no burned chip.

since i got the premodded console at the shop, i still have warranty from the shop so i better bring it back to him.

Yep I think that's a good idea, before you fry the chip and void the warranty and have to pay for a new one. It'll take a bit of time to bring it back and get it sorted there, but safest way :)

so went to the shop and guess what, she (yes a woman) refused to take the console for repair! she said there's nothing wrong with the chip but its the backup cds thats causing it. i asked what type of modchip installed in my pstwo and to my surprise she answered M3! so im not sure could my modchip be M3 instead of infinity matrix? so now she has no clue about this modchip at all. but dont blame her anyways coz she knows whole lots of games just ask her and she'll bring u one :).

now back to my unsolved problem. is there anything else i could do? found this website showing how to disassemble pstwo but its way too complicated for me. afraid i might break something and make my pstwo dead. hope there's a solution for this...

p/s: despite several attempts of upgrading, my chip is still working fine. so im quite positive its an original one :)

If they refuse to take it back to repair and you can't get it to work, I'd say leave it, it's not worth trying to do it yourself and possibly killing the chip. Although when you get your console chipped the installation should be covered by some sort of warantee, and I don't see why they wouldn't take it back for repair...
