Hello,
I have been trying to get the latest version of IMBnes to work on my v14 PS2 with a DMS4 SE Pro. No matter how I burn a cd-r my PS2 just goes to a black screen after the swirly Sony intro thing.
Does anyone have it working? How?
Thanks in advance

U need something like gameshark cdx or a similar tool made for the ps1 to get IMBnes to boot. I am pretty sure a mod chip wont support it, and know for sure SM will not.

For PS2 you need a modchip(check to see if your modchip can automatically detect psone format or bootcd that allows playing PSX cds, one that just runs PS2 games won't work.
Then you need to burn it using some method as the ones that can be found at ImbNES Help page.
or probally due to the CD not being well burned.
There are a lot of ways to burn cds, and sometimes depending on your software/hardware only one of them works. Try different ways to burn it, and remember to burn it at 1 or 2X.

hmm, I haven't tried burning it to a dvd, I'll give it a go tomorrow. I have a DMS4 SE Pro which should be able to boot PSone games.
BTW, most current burners are simply not able to burn cd's at 1x or 2x. The write stratigies do not exist in the firmware of the drives. Also, currently availible cd-r's have dyes that is optimized for burning at higher speeds such as 16x or 24x and produce better results(most of the time) with these speeds.

SM is swap magic, the poor mans way of modding a ps2 LOL.
Also, burn ur CD-R's at half the speed that its rated (i.e. 16x cd-rs at 8X) and u should be fine.

I have a range of cd-r's, but I have been using my top quality taiyo yudens for this. Fujifilm branded 48x disks burned at 16x. Gread quality scans but still doesn't work. Tried burning the image with Nero, Imgburn, Alcohol 120, clonecd... nothing works.

drumfool6 has a dms4 se pro it should automatically detect whether a PS1, PS2 CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD9 or DVD+RW, original domestic CD/DVD is inserted and then boot it without any interaction from the user

DMS4 Pro is one of the better chips, it should boot just about everything directly. theend757 has a guide on using Imbnes (sorry for stealing your link and posting it here theend757 when it should be you to post that link here :P), check it out: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/351999

Second on that, it should be made sticky so we don't get as many questions on the same topic (but then again... how many newbies actually read the stickies?)

Man you are good at this guessing game ;) I guess it still comes back to the problem that those who read the stickies knows what they are doing anyway, and those that don't read comes and ask the same silly questions every single day :(

That true, but it would still be great if it was stickied just for the fact it will be easier to find. I dont want to add another bookmark in my favs since there are already 100 lol. Would be nice 2 have it at the very top in big, bold beautiful letters LMAO!!

Update:
I tried running a backup of a Final Fantasy Origins and I got the same result as I was getting with the IMBnes disks I was trying. So I guess my system doesn't like burned PSX games for whatever reason.
I'm not sure what BIOS is on the chip, but that shouldn't make a difference right?
It is not the cd laser or burn quality that is an issue, PS2 cd backups play fine, and I've tested the write quality.

Thanks for your response. The backup I tried was a friend's (which I think he illegaly downloaded) on a Ritek cd. As the backup didn't work, I checked the burn quality but all was well (C1 error max=20, no C2 errors, max jitter=10.1%/beta).
I have read on playstation forums that newer v14 pstwo's simiply do not like ps1 games. Maybe I'll buy a cheap orginal ps1 game. I can't think of what else to do.

the only way to know that your ps2 read psone format is to test orginal ps1 game and if works means that the backup wasn't backup well or like you said newer v14 pstwo's doesn't read psone format. my method way is I use my action reply psone disc to boot backup psone games. if you have a gameshark or action replay psone disc you should test it
