all i have read was that people were having problems ripping and shrink problems. i have a different problem. the drive wont even read the disc. it tries for a while but then it acts like there is no disc in the drive. other discs work fine in the drive dont know if it is a new code sony came out with but i cant get the darn thing to read this disc. ive upgraded the f/w and still not working. maybe i got a bad disc. i know when i put it in the dvd player on the tv it freezes after i push play then have to start over and go to scene selection and start it from the begining and it freezes for a bit then it will play so i think it may be a bad disc. any suggestions on what i can do. bout ready to take the movie back and get a new one then try it again.

Does it work in your stand alone?

Gotta be the disc.

If it ain't the disc (like if it can play on a stand alone player) maybe it's your drive. Firmware update?

just got a new disc and its doing the same thing. the disc does have some watermarks towards the center of the disc but it does play in the stand a lone player but has a bit of trouble doing it. i have updated the firmware on the drive in the comp. but when it tries to read the disc it makes a noise like its trying to find the movie. i would think it is the comp. drive but it will read other discs in it. so im stumped. bout to give up on this one. hate to through in the towel. the first one i have had problems like this in about 4-5 years.

yes its brand new. can any of you look at yours and see if there is a few marks on the disc in the readable area that look like water marks or a stain on the plastic part of the disc? tried to clean it but the stuff wont come off.

Guys!!! The disc is loaded with protection. It is produced by Sony Studios. You name it ...it's in there. That's why your comp[uter won't even see the disc, among other things. Use the latest AnyDVD. It will show you what's in there. You can burn it with anything once enabled. I've had absolutely no problem with this disc. I was so blown away with the protection that I took a snapshot and emailed it to a few friends. Never seen so much.

Loaded or not, the standalone should play it. The first one wouldn't play in standalone, and even the second one is causing problems. Doesn't sound like a purely PC drive problem from the description given.

Freeryde, the latest version of dvdfabdecrypter works just fine! It will remove the copyright protection.

dont think i would have a problem ripping it if only the drive would read the disc. i have all the latest programs and that is not the problem. the problem is the disc not being read by the drive!

Not sure what kind of "watermark" he's talking about. My disc looks like a regular DVD. No special markings, and all of my equipment read and played it just fine.
As I said before if the standalone chokes on it, that has nothing to do with the PC, and everything to do with the disc itself.

ok here is a nother twist on this thread. i just got when a stranger calls also by sony pictures and it wont even read in the comp. the disc looks fine and still other dvds read fine in the drive. just for the hell of it i pulled the drive out and took it apart to clean the lens, put it all back together and tried to read when a stranger calls and underworld evo and still nothing but my other dvds read just fine. thinking of gettting a new burner to see if that will fix it but dang i dont know what is going on here. dont think its the drive as other discs will read but its worth a shot.
