I planning on buying a PSP soon but just wanted to know can you use a wireless connection to the net. Some hotel have wireless connections in rooms (hotspots). You dont need to have it plugged in to a desk-top pc?? Because I am buying a new one it comes with firmware 2. something, is it better to have 1.5? If so why?

No it is like a laptop. It has a WiFi reciever in it. So you go to a hotspot, setup a connection and browse.
