Hey there , im doing my firrst install of a duo3 on a v14 ive tinned all my pads exept for i, a ,b, ,g and h i cant seem to exposse the copper ive been gently scratching at it with no luck. Im thinkng about doing the alternative points located of the ps2 chip they are extremely close together does anybody have any tips for tining these legs on the chip or exposing more copper?
Its been an easy ride up untill now the bios pads were easy enough.

Looking at the V14 diagrams (by the way, which one are you looking at, there's 4 on the Duo3 website - need to be more specific), I don't see why you would want to expose more copper... there should be more than enough for you to attach wires to them. I would suggest staying away from the SMD as the legs aren't designed to be soldered by hand.

Get a fine tip soldering iron for the job - practice on something else first, and if you are really not confident in soldering wires to small joints like that, pay someone to do it, save you from the risk of killing your board :)

wellive got the revision 3 mobo and all the copper points are completely covered in that coating. You cant see any copper at all just green circle bumps that ive been scratching at. how risky is it soldering to those legs? im thinking about doing the craft knife blade thing on them. Im sure i could of soldered those contacts on the board if my mobo wasnt completely covered with this green protective layer.

The problem with soldering to the legs is they are so damn small its insane to get to them - if you believe you can do it, go for it, but check for shorts before you put power to the board!

i agree the alternative points on the legs are too hard, at least for me.

i used a tweezer(if thats what you call it) to scrape the points to reveal the copper. becareful not to overdo it as i did to one of the points. in the end i had to solder it to the alternative leg.

if u do ever need to do it on the leg, i suggest to use the razor blade method.
