Bit of a problem with Windows XP Pro, help please?

Now, after getting frustrated with the on going problems of my last install of XP Pro, i deceded to backup what i needed, and format my drive, and install a nice clean version of XP Pro.
I've partitioned the hard drive, and XP Pro is on the main "C", whereas "D" has nothing on it.
I'm not completely sure what the problem is, or whats causing it.
So far, all i know is that;
** Sometimes it can take upto 5 minutes to get from the Welcome screen, to the main desktop! - sometimes it takes seconds!
** Sometimes my wireless usb adapter appears not to be plugged in, and will not detect it, as a result i have no internet access - again sometimes this doesnt happen.
** My internet will just randomly stop working, and the wireless network icon in the system tray will freeze, alongside the freezing of the Netgear wireless configuration program. - This is first noticed when msn messenger stops responding, then disconnects. Also, the actual netgear config program may freeze upon opening.
** Sometimes Norton Anti-Virus and Internet Security does not appear in the system tray - sometimes they do
** Task manager sometimes freezes upon opening
** Windows can take a while to respond to anything, from opening a notepad file, to closing internet explorer.
There just a few of the things i have noticed so far!
Sometimes windows boots fine, no problems!
Other times, all them things happen at once, and everything between!
Its very frustrating now, after installing windows XP Pro several times over the past week, making sure the drivers are correct and present.
Making sure there are no viruses, and everything is as upto date as i can get them, i dont have a clue whats going on!
I did have a problem with CPU temperature a week or so ago, with temps getting as high as 70-74c. I've now fixed that, i have a Acrtic Cooling Freezer 7 pro mounted on my processor, in conjuction with Arctic Silver thermal paste. And so far, no temps over 45c have been reached.
And just to clarify, this is a genuine version of XP Pro, and activated, and there is nothing on my PC except a few programs.
I will include a hijackthis log, and see what you guys think. I will also post the startup list later on.
I've really got quite annoyed with the whole thing now.

where u was intalling windows did i have eny problems copying over the file (where u had to press esc to skip the file)
that wot happen to me and i had the same sort of problems

Personally, i'd dare to argue that the symantec bloatware you're using is causing a lot of this.
Norton is a bloated resource hog piece of cr@p with more holes in it than a piece of swiss cheese, so i suggest you have a look in our spyware/antivirus forums and get yourself some free replacement software.

ok, just to let you no, all these problems were happening before norton even touched the disc tray!
i installed it to see if my PC had any viruses...
Also, prior to norton, i used ad-aware se personal, and spybot search+destroy.

Thats what i thought.
I dont think its anything like a virus, because it was acting like this before it was even connected to the internet!!!
This is really bugging me!

Your symptoms are consistent with missing/incorrect Mb drivers or corrupt ones.
Suggest you download the latest from the manufacturer's site to make sure you have the latest versions available. Your first priorty after a reinstall should be to install the MB drivers B4 YOU INSTALL ANYTHING ELSE !
Either way check the system manager for errors and update accordingly.

Xeres is 100% right, that was the same thing I was going to suggest. Many of the symptoms you describe sound like bad or missing drivers for your motherboard chipset - nforce, via, or others depending on your make/model.

Ok, thank you for the responce.
So what do you think, shall i reinstall windows or just update the drivers as is?
Although, i will have to burn the drivers onto a CD, as I can't use the USB ports.

Grab your chipset(motherboard) drivers from either the board's manufacturer's site, or the chipset vendor themselves. Some boards have features chipset vendors don't accomodate so check the board's site first.
Second, no offense, but I've joined the band wagon in not supporting any questions regarding the use of Symantec products. Should you run into persistant issues, just uninstall and be done with it. If you cannot uninstall a Symantec product, it's easy to do in Safe Mode. I'll post how if anyone needs it.

Ahhh Genius!
I got the latest for my motherboard, it was on 1.60, now its on 1.70.
After reboot it was fine, fast as normal, installed the wireless USB adapter in seconds, and works perfect!
Thank you all for your help.
Hopefully, (touch wood) that this systems fine now, and the problem has been resloved!
