I have a problem ripping Splinter Cell: Essentials from UMD. I am using UMD Ripper from the MPH website, I let the UMD Ripper do its thing, but I come back like 1 1/2 - 2 hrs later and the PSP is off. I open my PSP up via USB on my PC and there is no UMD_DATA.BIN and also the PSP_GAME folder is not done completely. I know this b/c someone on a forum somewhere said the full rip of this game is like 1.68 GB. Why does this happen? I am sooooooo frustrated b/c I have tried this rip like 4 times. That's about 8 hours of trying to rip this game - all in one night! I am so sick of this, I am about to return the game. I am jealous of all of you who have Splinter Cell working on a 1.50, but I just can't seem to get the job done. I tried PSPLink or w/e it's called, so I could use the Dax UMD Dumper, but there's too much involved and I'm not a dev, so I can't screw w/ PSPLink.
To you ppl who have actually ripped Splinter Cell from UMD:
What app did you use? UMD Ripper from MPH or the 'other' UMD Ripper? (The one w/ the blue UMD as the logo) or is there another one I don't know of?
One thing I just thought of: I am going to try the rip by changing my PSP settings first. I am going to make it so the PSP NEVER goes into sleep mode or the backlight never shuts off. I might be ok w/ these settings.

Umm.... Run that by me again? :?
So during the rip, you can choose to break if off at 300MB increments, so that means you'll have what - 5 diff parts. I know this b/c I've seen the option. Then you piece them back together...? And where does DOS come in? WTF, man? lol and how do you patch together an ISO that was ripped in pieces? I've never done that. :(
Thanks for the help, but please explain more in-depth...

@ Hodgins91: Thanks for the link, but I've already tried DAX UMD Dumper and I couldn't get it to work b/c of the whole PSPLink thing you have to do. I was all over sourceforge getting that 01.10.0.1.tga.gz file or w/e it's called. I got very frustrated and gave up. Is there something I should know about this PSPLink thing? From what I've read about it, it creates a development environment and I'm not a dev. :( So this sounds like it would be out of my league. Do you have a copy you can upload and just use "Right out of the box", so to speak?
Thanks for any help, guys!

To dump via USB you need the file usbhostfs.prx of psplink, which is not included.
Copy it to the same directory that the program.
To install the drivers in the PC, follow this tutorial (and ignore all daxziso specific things like
configuring the ini file):
http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=20414
i could send u the usbhostfs.prx file but i am a newbie and is it possible to attach files to posts

oh, I already have that prx file. I have the set up for the PSP and for the PC, but I tried clicking on the PC folder and starting the .exe file, but it said there was a file missing. So I gave up b/c nothing I had read mentioned this file and I didn't feel like going on an effing easter egg hunt which this most certainly was. I will try following the tutorial tho, thanks.
Nevermind. I already tried that tutorial. That's the one that F***ed me up in the first place b/c it makes reference to all these files that I don't have. That is a terrible tutorial. Do you have anything else? Also, if you want to upload something, here is a site you can use which you don't have to have a membership for, and the downloads are much faster than Megaupload and Filesharing.de or w/e it's called. No screwing around w/ this site. You just upload immediately and click the link to d/l and it starts downloading. No reserve tickets, no wait time, nothing.

Awesome! Up to 500MB PER UPLOAD!!! *cough*Good ISO uploading site. you're not at the mercy of someone else's bandwidth! you just have to make sure the ISO is at/below 500MB*cough* LOL!

My roommate and I were looking that tutorial over last night and we were both lost. It just leaves you hanging. I don't know if I can give this one last shot, as I'm running out of patience for all of this ISO and homebrew crap. It's too much work to hack an ISO now. I just want that mod chip. Then I can just dump a 2.60 ISO and just run it w/o screwing w/ prx files and the like. I am going to try Fastloader v0.7 when I get home. I'll see if that does a better job than UMD Ripper.

I'll have to send you a list tonight. I am at work right now and I don't know the folders off the top of my head. Let me give Fastloader v0.7 a try first. (I forgot you can rip UMDs w/ it.) If that doesn't work, then I'll go after the Dax ripper. Tho I would like to have the Dax UMD dumper working anyway, b/c I am tired of having to take items off my MS to make room, then put everything back on my MS. I'll send you a list of what I have b/c it would be handy to dump directly to my PC.
Thanks for the help and be expecting a PM from me.
Peace.

ok.
rip with fastloader into parts, after each part is done the prog pauses.
move them from psp memory stick to somewhere on your PC, resume.
repeat until you have all parts on your pc.
then (credit to grometron on psp-spot) follow this:
Quote: 1. Open Command Promp from the start menu of windows (STAR\AllPrograms\Accessories\Command Prompt). When this opens, it will display the windows version, copyright, and a directory like so:
Microsoft Windows Version XXX
© Copyright Microsoft Corp.
C:\Documnets and Settings\Owner>
2. After you have completed backing up the iso with FASTLOADER v0.7, place all the split iso files intp the directory the Command Prompt opened into as shown above. For example, I would place my files in C:\Documents and Settings\Owner.
3. REname all the split parts to part1, part2, part3, etc. for however many files you are joining.
4. In command Prompt, enter:
copy /b part1 + part2 + part3 + part4 + part5 GAME.iso
Here you put however many parts it is split into. For example, this example has 5 parts (files) that need to be joined.
"GAME.iso" is the file all these split files will be joined to. You can name this whatever you want, but don't forget the .iso extension.
5. When command prompt says (1) files copied, the process is done. Be patient, especially if you are making a big iso. Although there is very little sign of progress, it is doing its job. THERE WILL BE NO PROGRESS BAR.
then follow my tutorial:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/351535
if you still cant figure it out.. then TOUGH.. ive helped you enough wtih this!!!!!
j/k i had alot of issues with this game too so im trying to "help a brother out" as they say.
