I just ordered a 100 pack of TYG02's from supermedia..i usually brag about my RitekG05's but i figured i'll try something new for a change.I was also looking at the printable TYG02's but i've heard the surface on them is nowhere near as smooth as the Ritek printable media i have the ritek printable dvd-r & they're smooth as silk...anyone like the surface on those TYG02's compared to the ritek???
Also is TYGO3 as good as TYG02?

Doc would be best to ask. In fact, his Q&A thread is the best place.

for some odd reason my TYGO3 will not play on my cheap ol' cyberhome dvd player but all my TYG02 will...hhmmmm. What sucks about it is that I bought 200 of these.
Im gonna stick with Ritek from here on out since I have ZERO issues playing on any dvd player.
Just my .02 worth.

:)
this question would have been better suited in my docTY Taiyo Yuden thread as Mr. Pink suggested, and if you were to read the pages (all 2039820398203980923802938 of them) your answer is within the posts)... :)
but since i'm already here
Quote: I was also looking at the printable TYG02's but i've heard the surface on them is nowhere near as smooth as the Ritek printable media i have the ritek printable DVD-R & they're smooth as silk...anyone like the surface on those TYG02's compared to the ritek???
in MY opinion, the printable surface on the Riteks are "better" (more smooth as you put it), also, Taiyo Yuden does NOT make full hub printable SILVER inkjet printables, but do in their WHITE FULL-HUB printables...the quality of the media itself is very good, but since you are having so much success with the RitekG05s, if you are happy with the printable surface on the Riteks, you would best to just stick with what works well for u currently~ :)
in the past i was one of the very few people who also had tremendous success with RitekG05s (Ridata Ritek branded), but this was well over 2+ years ago, i haven't since purchased any recently...i am not only the Taiyo Yuden president/leader, but am a client myself~ LOL (that's a joke, as corny as it is)
also, i've answered the TYG03 vs TYG02 question many times throughout my TY thread, PERSONALLY, i feel the TYG02s are MUCH BETTER, i've used thousands of the TYG02s and maybe only about 600 or so of the TYG03s, with my FIRST batch being a "bad batch" which was immediately sent back for a replacement after 10 consecutive coasters...and at this point, i RARELY ever make coasters PERIOD.
the 16x rated TYG03s are still coming into their own, while the 8x rated TYG02s have already earned their reputation for quality on the current market, from myself and MANY other happy TYG02 users...
one big thing to keep in mind about the TYG03s, is to make sure your drive's firmware is up to date...if it isn't, good chance you won't be burning onto them properly (assuming your drive manufacturer's firmware has the TYG03 in it's tables)...so, given the choice between which DVD-R TYs i would recommend? hands down the 8x DVD-R TYG02s :)
@geestar
i think your particular standalone is more picky with the newer 16x rated media, i could be wrong, but that would explain why the TYG02 are no problemo while the TYG03s are problematic ?
as i mentioned earlier, i would highly recommend the TYG02s over that of it's faster TYG03 brother, not only for quality reasons (because 8x media has already been tried and tested and improved upon, 16x media is "newer" on the market and are slowly becoming more dominant, they are far from being "perfected" at this point) but as in your case, compatibility reasons too as you have found out :)

while you're at it, DocTy, what's the difference with the YUDEN000T02 as compared to the YUDEN000T03? I use the 8x DVD+Rs that acutally let me burn at 16x (at least it's available to my burner) but I only burn at 8x with excellant results. I have yet to see printable 16x DVD+Rs in silver or the white printable Taiyo Yudens. Are these available? and where, since I buy at supermediastore.com? Why do my 8x DVD+R Taiyo Yuden allow me or make available write speeds up to 16x? am I asking for too much?

Quote: what's the difference with the YUDEN000T02 as compared to the YUDEN000T03?
there really isn't MUCH difference from what i can see thus far, the YUDEN000T03s are IN MY OPINION, the BEST 16x DVD+R media available today, some will argue that the Verbatim 16x DVD+R MCC004s are "better," but FOR ME and my various drives, the YUDEN000T03s give me better scores~ :) i also burn these @8x too, just to be on the safe side~ :P
as to why your drive CAN burn them @16x, if i'm not mistaken, your Philips is actually a rebadged Benq 1620? a very good drive indeed following the long Benq line of quality (1620, 1640, 1650...and their Lightscribe counterparts) note, the DQ60 is the only Benq drive i would NOT recommend to others, my buddy has one and it's given him NOTHING substantial and a slew of problems~ :)
many of the Benq drives allow you to "overburn" media faster than their rated speed, hence, on the good quality YUDEN000T02s you are currently using, available write speeds go all the way up to 16x! (if you choose to do so), you've done good in keeping your burns at the rated speed of 8x, i rarely advise people to "overburn" their media unless they have thoroughly let QSuite "learn" their media and want to experiment a bit more...taking it to the extremes u could say :)
i still continue to burn both my YUDEN000T02s and my YUDEN000T03s @8x, the scores are pretty decent for both these particular medias @12x and even "acceptable" @16x, but it would do you good to just stick with the @8x burning speeds you currently use, if it's not broke, why fix it? and you've noted great success and excellent results @8x, so, no need to change the speed~ :)
i have yet to actually use inkjet printable (silver or white) 16x DVD+R Taiyo Yudens yet either, so you are not alone there...i have only been able to obtain the silver shiny ones...and only from rima.com (supermediastore + meritline do not currently have them in stock here in the U.S.) :) and naturally directly from Taiyo Yuden too~
http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=...
while still expensive, if you truly are curious in trying them to see how they perform on your setup, that is where to get em' :) i would actually suggest purchasing the less inexpensive 8x DVD+R YUDEN000T02s (the ones u use currently), because IN MY OPINION, they are THE BEST DVD+R that i currently use from personal experience. :)
hope that clarifies a bit for ya~ burn on...
