Does anyone know if there is any free software that I can use to save my games on to my usb flash drive instead of using a memory card, if there is that would be pretty sweet.

you can't directly save to a usb flash drive but there is cheat programs (like AR max evo) which let you transfer your save files to a usb flash drive.

Codebreaker works good too...
With Code Breaker you can also copy game saves to your HD in your PS2
