What kind of modchip do I have?

Hi everyone! I am new to the boards. =) I bought a second hand ps2 off a friend, He said his modchip require me pushing the resetting button 3 times , and another 2 times quickly to activate the modchip in order to play import games. If it's original disc, I can skip the process.

I am just troubled to what kind of modchip do I have? Is it even a modchip? I am afraid of keep resetting so much , I think it is hurting the ps2 and soon it will die. -o- (even though he said he played like that for a yr already)

it is a mod chip or you would not be able to play back ups and imports. But it must be a cheap one because a good one auto detects what you put in and plays it.

the ripper 2 is the only one who's boot mode even sounds close to that but it says to press reset twice to change modes.
The problem is that there are so many different chips out there that unless someone else has one and can tell you that is what they do you will be out of luck.
Is there any logo at all when you start the PS2 or a game other than the PS2 logo?
Pressing reset button that way every time you play a game is surly not good for it. YOu may want to look into getting someone to put a good quality chio in there and getting rid of that one.
