Image problems using DV input

Hello all, new member here. Lurked for ages, but never had to post till now.
I recently picked up a cheap DVD recorder. I wanted one that had a front DV input, a cheap price, and the ability to record on + and - media. So I ended up with a Daytek DR5102. I couldn't find much info on them, they must be new, and maybe not avbl in the US. Here's the specs... http://www.daytek.ca/dr5102.html (listed below too).
I'm happy with it so far. But I really wanted it for the DV input. To ease trabsferring the content from my mini-dv camcorder onto dvd's. This is where I'm hitting a bit of a snag now. I'm wondering if you guys can help me troubleshoot it. Is it a defective unit, a bad 1394 cable, or does this feature just not work very well on these cheaper units?
Here's what happens... I connect the camcorder and change the recorder to the DV input. That's great, everyhting's good. Then I hit play on the cancorder, and I see eveythign on (tv) screen. Super. But after about 4 seconds or so, the screen goes black with no pic or sound. That lasts for a split second, and then everythign is ok again. But 4 seconds later, the same thign happens. This repeats for the entire time I had it going. It's always 4 seconds apart, and always lasts for just a split second.
The source content is ok. The camcorder's screen is also showing the playback, and it does not hiccup like that. So I say, ok, maybe if I record it, it will be ok... nope. When I played back the recorded feed (from DVD), it doesn't have the black screen, but it is still missing the source that should have been there. It just left that part out altogether. It's liek the recorder pauses when it sees there is no "feed" via the DV cable. So if you watch it, the movie jumps and the dialog is missing bits.
Any thoughts? If I hook it up to my comuter all is fine, but that's using a different cable (still 1394 though). It was an expensive cable. It doesn't work (different end) with the recorder, so I bought another cable - a cheap one. Is that the problem?
My next step is to grab another cable when I get a chance.

hi, i have a same problem with a DVD-R1200 COBY, i see de the video/audio for the dv input but don´t rec, "no signal detect. Please turn on the DV system". Please Help me. Thanks
