My buffer level is only at 1% when i'm burning cd's. The cd's are burning very slow. Those anyone know what I have to do to fix this problem? You help is much appreciated.

What program are you using to burn to cd-r(w)?
How much physical ram do you have on your computer?

I'm using easy cd creator 5 and i have 64 ram.
you help would greatly be appreciated. I used to burn cd's at a very fast speed.

Your total system ram is low m8. Consider adding more ram and see how much your motherboard supports. Standard these days is at least 256 ram. Try BurnAtOnce, a freebie and uninstall Easy CD Creator as DirectCD (if installed) might be causing conflicts. Are you running ASPI layer 4.6?

Something else you should look into, I had this problem once. Make sure that your burner is using DMA (as opposed to, most likely, PIO Mode 4).

first good piont from shoey! 256 ram minnium!!!

now what OS are you using? have you upgraded to XP? this needs 256 min to run!

also to check PIO or DMA mode in XP go to my computer/system properties/hardware/device manager/ then scroll down list to: IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers - then right click on primary ide channel and then secondary ide channel and click tab: advanced settings...

now you should be looking at the settings of the drive!

EDIT:

why your system was fast then is slow now is you may have loaded a program recent that sits in system tray or not! that is using your CPU speed before you start to run cdrw program?

turn all off then run program!

i have winXP with 512 ram corsair set to aggresive ram timmings and on a full day of HARD usage i sometimes get slight slow down on games! i reboot all is fine to game away! the ram gets clogged and its hard to free itself up (THATS WINDOWS FOR YA!)...

1. Goto Control Panel
2. Goto Device Manager
3. Expand the entry labeled, "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers"
4. Goto the properties for "Primary IDE Channel"
5. Under "Advanced Settings", make sure the drop-down boxes show "DMA If possible" (or something like that).
6. Do the same for the "Secondary IDE Channel"

That's it - Windows will try to enable DMA with the device. Reboot and go back to those properties to check if it was sucessful.

Note however that if DMA is disabled in the BIOS (which is SHOULDNT be) then this wont really matter. Odds are however that it is NOT disabled in the BIOS.

EDIT: Sorry Rotary... read too quickly didnt realize you already answered the question ;)
