i have a JVC HRJ6880 Video recorder and a Alba RDVD1002 DVD Recorder. when i hook them up and try to put a video onto a dvd i get 'this video is protected' message and it goes into pause mode. Can anyone enlighten me please? If I am in the wrong forum I apologise. Many thanks in advance.

Yes, very simpley put your VHS tape is macrovision encoded for copy protection( as your dvd recorder states). Your DVD recorder is manufactured to recognize this fact and prohibits recording the video output of the VHS unit to the video input of the DVD. You'll need other equipment in the video circut before your video recorder will be able to copy the stream. Seeing how the VHS tape you are trying to copy is obviously not a personal tape but commercial content, it lands in that big grey area of what is legal to copy ( even if you bought it) and whats not. So as not cross over this line I'll only state it can be done, but you'll need to do some research on Macrovision to see what solutions and or equip is needed.

Than that means your video recorder is is not able to receive any video inputs from the VHS. I would have to view the specs or your dvd recorder but will assume this is a stand alone unit and not hooked up through a computer. There are a number of different ways to hoook up a video camera, even to a stand alone unit. I usually import video from my Sony handy cam through my ATI All in wonder video card( there are ton,s of device you can purchase for this not just video cards in computers).Than I use Adobe Premire to add or delet, apply effects etc,and save the project to my Hard drive. I than use Nero to burn a copy of that and save the log in case i want to make extra copies. My guees to your problem is the format from the camera does not coicide with those accepted by your DVD recorder.
Your camera is probable recordering in AVI and the recorder is looking for something else( like VOB's) You would need to convert the file using a computer and burning software. You can skip using Adobe Premire( it ain't cheap) and just use Nero to encode the file for DVD autoring.
Hope this helps
