SONY DRU 120 XP Roxio Gateway E-3400

I have a SONY DRU 120 +R + RW installed on a Gateway E-3400 with Windows XP as the OS and Roxio Platinum as the burning software.

A couple of questions.

1. Occasionally, I will get a system hang at the end of a recording. Windows Explorer won't respond. I have to cold boot the system. If I leave the DVD in the burner, both explorer and Roxio will try and read it and go into a hang situation that requires a cold boot to fix. Abut 1 in 5 of my DVD +r get trashed this way. I tried verbatim, Maxell, and Memorex medai. Verbatim I was getting 2 out of 3 failures, Maxell maybe 1 out of 5, and Memorex about 1 out of 10 DVD's would be come coasters.

Is there a way to make the DVD burning preform better under these circumstances?
