Basically I have recorded a program on a DVD+R dual layer medium. Is it possible to play this DVD in my home theatre system DVD player which is supposedly a DVD-R player. The unit is a Pioneer DVR-520H-s.
I know that I cannot record +R medium on the machine, but was wondering if this also precluded playback of +R medium on the Pioneer
Hope I am making sense here.

Thanks in advance.

I think you shouldn't have a problem some dvd players can be picky though...I however am able to play all of my DVD-R backups on dvd players that are only suppose to play dvd+r's but DVD-R is more compatible than DVD+R...but if the DVD+R is booktyped then its more compatible than the DVD-R.So you 'll just have to try it out & see ...you can always pick up some DVD-R if it doesn't work.

Why don't you take the disc that's in question and put it in the player at home and see if it will play? Duh!

I think I should have said I am about to burn a dual layer DVD+R, as I am unable to get any dual Layer DVD-R at this stage. I didnt want to waste a dual layer dvd if it wasnt going to work in my home theatre DVD player. I bought a pack of 5, but it was only when I got them home I found out that my player supposedly only accepts the -r versions when I was told it would take both by the salesperson. I dont want to open them up as I will probably return them to the store if I find it will be a waste of time. I hope I am making sense here.

If you pc drive can book type a +R to DVD-ROM then get DL +Rs to burn. That stand alone player should play + and - media. Will it read a 5GB+r burned disc?

I have actually managed to return the + discs and replace for - disks
Thanks people. I do have a couple of single layer + disks, I will try to burn a video on to one and see what happens in my stand alone player.
