When I modded my X-Box, I had to program a bios onto the chip in order to boot backups. If I put a chip into my PS2 will I have to do the same thing, or is there no need to program a bios onto the chip?

depends on the chip, the higher quality chips that have more features such as the DMS4 or Matrix Infinity need flashing, all you need to do is insert a CD with the BIOS burnt onto it and it will install. The DMS4 BIOS are constantly being updated with new features and compatibility fixes.
Lesser chips dont have BIOS updates or anything and work fine straight after installation.

Thanks, I've been looking at the Matrix chip. Any suggested reading from anyone before chipping my PS2?
