I have burned about 10 movies. 2 of them have skipping in them, Spanglish and Dave Chappelle's Block Party. I use Ritek Ridata DVD+R DL. Is this result of the disc being a "coaster"? If so, is it possible to use these "coaster" copies to make another copy using DVD Decryptor? Thanks for the help in advance!

Welcome to AD,
A Coaster is one that you really can't play. Disk skipping could be due to your DVD player not liking the media, the disk being burned too fast, your hard drive not defragged recently, multitasking, (using too much memory).
Try playing your movie in the computer that burned it, if it plays fine then you probably can reburn a good copy using DVDdecrypter and reburning using Imgburn http://www.imgburn.com/ What speed did you burn the original copies at? I recommend 2.4 for DL disks. Secondly, some people have been having problems with the Ritek disks, Verbatim have a better track record, personally I have burned 5 disks so far and have had no problem with the Verbs and DVDdecrypter and Imgburn.
Let me know if this helps.

Just to add a little to what blivetNC said, it could also be due to the layer break (depending on where this is happening). Some burning programs do not handle the layer break burning properly. Thus resulting in skips or a pause. With this in mind, the burning program could also be at fault.

hehe, and a 3rd comment to add upon the 2 great suggestions before me, what dvd burner are you currently using to burn onto the Ritek DVD+R DLs?
on top of the fact that burning speed, burning program used, and standalone dvd player compatibility, CERTAIN drives (namely Benq drives) do NOT like Ritek DVD+R DLs, regardless of recent firmware updates...Liteon's and Pioneer drives, NEC also, fare MUCH better with Ritek DL media than do Benqs...this holds true with the various drives i currently own and use, Plextor's might have no problems burning onto Ritek as well, but i don't own on to test it out~ :)
we might be able to help you out further once we know the details of your burn process and what drive you are currently using with which particular firmware, if all this fails to produce a "non-coaster" for you, then i would definitely suggest using Verbatim DVD+R DLs from now on (these are very high quality as far as DL media is concerned and have a more widespread compatibility with various makes and models of DL capable drives in the market today. moreso than the Ritek Ridatas, i tell you this from PERSONAL experience as i have ZERO issues burning onto Ritek Ridata DVD+R DLs using my Sony dru-710a -which is a Liteon SOHW-1633S rebadge- my Liteon SOHW-1693S, as well as my Nec 3520a AND my Pioneer dvr-109; my problems only started when attempting to burn DL Ritek Ridata using my Benq drives; the other brands and manufacturers of drives i am not personally familiar with, but i WILL tell you that the above drives i mentioned WILL burn Ritek Ridata DVD+R DLs just fine once all the settings/burning program/other factors are resolved...) :)

this is really starting to piss me off. i burned 40 yr old virgin, and the island, and same shit. skipping like in the middle of the island, and in the second to last chapter in 40 yr old virgin. here is my exact hardware and process:
1. i use a sony drx-710UL, and ritek ridata DVD+R DL.
2. i use dvd-decryptor to burn at the slowest speed.
3. i defragment before every burn.
4. the outcome is crap, this only started happening with the last few movies i burned and suspect it's the disc?
please help, i am losing my mind!

Quote: the outcome is crap, this only started happening with the last few movies i burned and suspect it's the disc?
in this case, i would guess that there are a few "bad discs" in your spindle/jewel cases (however you purchased them in)...this does happen more frequently with Ritek media than the Verbatim DVD+R DLs (even though i HAVE had 2 spindles of Verbatim 10-pack DVD+R DLs that were defective and had NOTICEABLE "rings" on the dye portion of the disc by visual inspection PRIOR to the burn...these 2 packs went back for replacements after my 1st Coaster i made in the spindle) :)
there is not a single PERFECT manufacturer out there, but Verbatim is highly regarded as "the best" right now with THEIR DVD+R DL media, made in singapore :) there will be "bad batches" with every manufacturer, some more prevalent than others...you might have had good success with Ritek DVD+R DLs before, but now you've run into the "dreaded bad batch" of them :(
everything else seems good in your burning process, you have the external version of the Sony dru-710a that i have..it's rebadged Liteon SOHW-1633S and from MY experience, assuming i get a decent "batch" of Ritek Ridata, they CAN burn just fine w/ no freezing/skipping at the layer break or towards the end...
Ritek DLs have been "questionable" in terms of quality, many users report issues with them, perhaps i'm one of a lucky FEW that don't have issues with the drives i use to burn onto them??? who knows?
also, another point of detail...what is the MID coding on the particular "batch" of Ridata Ritek DLs that you are having issues with? is it the RitekD01 coding or the RicohjpnD00 coding? i've had mixed results with my RICOHJPND00 ones ironically, over that of my RitekD01 coded ones...just curious which ones you got? because i know at some point in time last year, when the Ridata Ritek DVD+R DLs were coming out to the market here in the U.S., the early batches were RitekD01, while the latter batches were RicohjpnD00; there will always be a debate between which of the two are "better"...in MY opinion, i've had more success with the RitekD01 personally...but, others might feel the Ricohjpn produced ones work "better" on their own setup...
only thing i can suggest now is to try using the Verbatim DVD+R DLs...the consistency is higher for quality in those, IMHO....
