Overall I am very pleased with the Pioneer 533 DVD Recorder. The reproduction quality is quite outstanding: colors really look natural and a luminous sharpness permeates the picture.

However, a couple of questions have arisen since I started using it to copy Mini DV tape with the direct DV connection. Whenever I use the editing feature of the Pioneer, deleting portions of a shoot, the stopping point of a segment freezes at the end. In other words, when you view the scene the last image where you made the cut lingers in stillness, rather than achieving a precise ending. So it leaves a somewhat jarring effect, as it moves to the next scene. Is there any way of getting around this, resulting in a smoother cut?

Also, when I played a finalized DVD recording, comparing the performance of it in one recorder/player to another, I noticed a puzzling difference. In the original Pioneer unit, on which I made the recording, the Standard screen format readout is somewhat smaller than on the Zenith player-only unit. Logically it seems like the latter unit stretches the image, resulting in making someone look a wee bit heavier. Why would the screen aspect ratio change ever so slightly from one player to another when playing the same disc? Is it possible to make it uniform so the image looks identical on both?
