recently patched my firmware to make it region free,I have a Sony Vaio laptop with a Pioneer DVDR K16D drive.

What I would like to know is which media would burn reliably at 8x. I have tried VCDHelp, but there is nothing listed there for the drive. Is there a way to extract the media code table ? The reason I ask is that I found the following url from pioneer which list media compatibility ;

http://wwwbsc.pioneer.co.jp/product-e/ibs/device_e/dev00003r_e.ht...

Because the K16D is an OEM drive, its not listed but I think I read somewhere that its very similar to the A05, can anyone confirm this ?

I was thinking of these DVD's

But not sure on the TYG03 dye, apparently it works well if you have up-to-date firmware, but I can't see Sony releasing an OEM firmware update. When the firmware was patched to become region-free, would the media code table have been updated too?

I don't think you would have any problems burning them at 8X. Should be very good discs.
