The BestBuy "no Verbatim" situation...

I like bestbuy. I like the look of the store and that it has a lot of its products on display for you to try and take a good look before you fork over your money. Plus it just smells nice in there...
The sales people are normally very friendly (always count on commission driven friendliness) and generally knowledgable.
Anyways, now on to the point... I went there yesterday to restock on DVD+R's and DVD+R DL's. I always get Verbatim (expecially for DL) but to my great surprise, the only Verbatims this store had were a 5 pack of lightscribe! They had a whole row of Memosux and some Fuji. There might have been other brand in there. I'm sure they probably had Sony but at that point I was just too weirded out with the "no Verbatim" situation to notice. Okay, maybe I'm slightly exaggerating but seriously, how could they not carry Verbatim!
I decided to ask one of the employee's if maybe they had some Verbatim in stock or if they even usually carried it. The guy said that they carry Verbatim as a brand but they don't regularly order Verbatim DVDR's. Of course he had to try and sell me the Memorex instead. Told me it was an excellent brand. (hum...). I would still pay full price for Verbatim if the store gave away Memorex media.
Hey Bestbuy! Here's an incentive to order Verbatim: I was going to go to your store and buy some spindles. Instead, I just left and did not buy anything...
Ok. Sorry about the rant if anyone has actually read through this but is it just my local store? Does anybody regularly buy Verbatim from Bestbuy and if so, where?

Always use good quality blank media. Verbatim is always a good call. Don't be seduced by those 50-spindles you find in the $2.99 bin at your local car wash! :)

Try the Best Buy website. If it is on the site, it MIGHT be in the store. Maybe you can place an order for store pickup. Some items could be web available only. Have the store dude run an inventory check for your local area on his computer. He can check other locations so you don't have to drive around.
As far as stores go - their inventory will vary depending upon who does the actual ordering. The sales people are not on commission; at least they tell me that every time I go in there.
Individual knowledge will vary from complete idiot to complete master; luck of the draw. I rarely find the same person in the same department twice in a row . . .
At least the service tech in computers has been there for several years (at "my" store) and he IS good.

Your Verbatim mishap may just be temporary ! I like BestBuy as well - Especially since Compusa ( F- ed me over Last Xmas ) But that was nothing that BestBuy & newegg.com can't cure ! Lately it looks like Verbatims have been on sale like every week or atleast every other week ! Your Best Bet for verbatims at bestbuy would be to go before you run out & preferably when they are on sale ! That may sound silly but when they have Memorex's on sale that's most likely what you'll see on the shelves atleast most of them ! Also Look around really good ! Bestbuy is A good chain but where I am anyways they tend to put the DVD media that's on sale either in a out of the way cubbyhole , a out of the way endcap or on the bottom shelf ! And being a large dimension the last option is no picnic for me ! also don't forget to look by the computers & laptops sometimes they'll put a small display of Verbatims there as well ! I found some 16x DVD+R's Verbatims @ $14.99 a 50ct. spindle when the sony's were on sale ! They ( bestbuy ) were'nt happy but I got them for that price - I had to sign in blood and promise them my grandchildren but I got the price! LOL! I did have to fill out paperwork though ! And the verbatims went back onsale that sunday so they did'nt lose anything ! You could also order online but look for free shipping ! I buy most of my dvd media locally mainly Bestbuy or OfficeDepot During sales but everyone has their own ideas so go with what works ! Good luck & happy shopping ! Check the Sunday sales ?

Always ask for the Verbs, they have them hidden all over the department, they can and will check their inventory and let you know how many packs they have hidden, they will look for them if you ask..
Just my 2˘ worth.

I went in best buy the other day to get some Verb's and they were also sold out of what i was looking for. Now they may of had some +R's but i've never used them before and i always stick with the -R format but i suppose it wouldn't hurt me to buy some of the +R since i've been hearing good things about them.

Thanks for the tips people. I'll do that. Meanwhile, I have this other place that I go to and they always have the Verbs I like. The only thing they don't always have a lot of is DL Verbatims. Sometimes when I go there, they'll have like a three pack of DL's and that's it.
edit: Has this thread been moved? I though I posted it in the safety valve... I guess I could have posted it in DVDR media. Oh Well!

demotic- The Dvd+r's are excellent too like the DVD-R's and if you have a Drive/burner that can booktype - Benq, Sony , liteon, plextor ect.. then DVD+R would be just dandy ! If your Dvd player is 2years old or less it will probably play a Geno's pizza if the cheese isn't to thick !so choosing the type/format of dvd media is more just a matter of personal preferrance & price! DVD-R are cheaper online but if your buying local /retail then prices are equal for either. I don't think you can go wrong with either format in verbatim or taiyo yuden ! but I'm a strong proponent of freedom of choice so use what works best for you & your Burner good luck demotic!

Yup ! THe Get Down ! ain't so bad it's returning to the vertical that takes a little doing & maybe a mobile crane or Two ? for me atleast LOL! Oh! how we suffer for our Art ! lol! Good luck & may all your sales be at eye level !LOL! Ps# 1 - Home's no picnic either! my wife is Somewhat less vertically blessed than I am ( She's Short!) so she puts things in the cupboard on the lower shelves because that's where she lives ! I being a large dimension tend to put things at my eye level so I can see'em so if either of us goes to the cupboard we can never find what the other one put up ! Ah ! such is love no?

Same here. My wife is 5' tall and she is always asking..."Honey, can you reach that for me?" At least I got the taller of the 2 in her family because her sister is 4'10"!! Both of their parents are about 5'5".
