Hey, I am very new to burning movie dvds and I have a problem that I have been trying to fix for weeks now. I have 7 avi files which range from approx. 300mb to 700mb for a total of about 3.41gb. Now I am trying to put all of them on a single 4.7gb dvd with menus for a stand alone dvd player. I have tried many of the tutorials here but still have had no sucess. My questions are: Is this possible? Can I do it with freeware? and obviously how? I'm sorry if there was already a question like this , but I could not find a solution that fit my problem. Thanks in advanced for any help.

Add. My major problem is when I try any program to burn to dvd it expands the files to almost 10xs the size. I have tried the tutorial but virtualdub won't let me merge the files (Diff. audio sampling rate) thus I cannot continue on to the other steps.

Yes you can,. Use VSO ConvertxToDVD. However, you may want to reduce the total number of titles that you want to put on a DVD-5 to avoid compression artifacts.

Sure you can but, as stated above, the quality would be terrible due to the low bitrate you would have to use. Your files are expanding because AVI files are only containers holding the video and by encoding them, you are actually decompressing them. If you don't want to encode them, you could burn them all as data to 1 DVD but you would have to purchase a player capable of playing them and if you wanted to view them on other players, you couldn't. ConvertXtoDVD will do the job but isn't free. Have a look at its predecessor which was also quite good, if I recall correctly:http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/v...

Is it necessary to merge the files into one file, to use DivX to DVD converter? Or at least the ones I intend to put on a single DVD? Is there a way to do that without using virtual dub? Again, thanks in advanced.

It's not necessary to merge the files first. Not sure if DivXtoDVD does this but does do batch encodes, been quite a while since I used it.
