PS2 boots up, but won't read disks.

I just modded my fatty V7 PS2 with the Magic 3.1 + chip, and everything seems to work fine except that it won't read disk media. It doesn't even check the drive. As soon as it boots up it goes straight to the system menu. I'm thinking I lost power to the drive or something. Probably one of my ribbon cables isn't secured. Could someone tell me which ones to inspect? Or possibly a post from someone who has/had a similar problem?

Sounds more like your installation is the problem. Either that, or your laser is worn out. Does it boot originals?

It's your laser if because if you put the disc in and it dosent read the disc and like 3 min after still nothing your laser or motherboard have burnt out sorry for the bad news i was also 1 of the lucky one's my mother board and dms4 pro chip and laser all burnt out and it was a v7 ps2.for a new laser it bout $70 for a pro to install it for the motherboard i called sony when mine stuffd they said $100au if its not moddified and a massive $300 if it has which i think is dumb because a new ps2 is 200au

Fixed it. The DVD drive data cable fell out when I was putting it back together. Everything seems to work fine now. Thanks for the help!
