I have a Pioneer A04 and a Pioneer DVD-116 player in a fast machine (Dual Xeon) and have tried a few different copying programs- Nero, Prassi.

When I copy a disc I made: eg. A wedding Video, from the Player to the burner, it is almost 100% reliable at 1x but about 20% reliable at 2x. Even ripping to the HD first and then burning at 2x dosn't work. Also, the "test and if OK burn" portion of various programs say all is well but the Player stops at around 98% and the Burner continues. The only way out is a cold boot which of course trashes the disc.

Other than the obvious (burning at 1x) is there any advice out there that may help me out for a reliable copy at 2 or 4x ??

PS We are using Pioneer DVD-R media.

Thanks

Ron

You need to upgrade the firmware for the 104. I have upgraded to 1.31 which, although not an official Pioneer upgrade does the job well. Can now burn flawlessly at 2x on 4x media. Be aware that you must not put a 4x disc in a 104 burner without first upgrading the firmware as you may damage the lazer.

Thanks Mike.

We upgraded to this version when it came out and I had hoped it would have fixed the problem...but it didn't.

You could try upgrading the firmware to 1.40 which is possible and then 1.40 allows you to then downgrade to any other firmware. There is a good selection at www.firmware.co.uk - this is what I did before settling on 1.31. The 1.40 allows you to change back to any firmware selection. I would also suggest changing the media. I know Pioneer media is expensive and so you'd expect it to be perfect but that's not always the case. If all else fails the new 105 burner is supposed to be perfect at up to 4x copying.

Pioneer A05/105 is not perfect as I have one and I am having a tough time of it. I have not changed my firmware yet but I figured that the top line firmware should already be in it. No??
My Pioneer disc recorded almost perfect except for 3 flaws none that stopped the movie like the cheap disc's do though.EXPRESS did the best job for me and also MY DVD software.

Thanks for your input, it is appreciated.

Yes, the Pioneer discs were pricey, but I thought the maker of the burner should be able to make a disc that was 100% correct for it.

Short of wearing one green sock and one black one, I have tried just about everything to make a 2x copy on our A04 from our Pioneer player.
To date (less than a year), I have trashed over 100 discs; trying various cabling configurations, software packages, bios updates, Windows updates, etc. all to no avail.

1x works "everytime" but 2x has been a disaster. 4x should, in theory, fail twice as fast as our 2x do now ;)

If anyone else is having similar problems, please let me know what you found eventually worked...thanks!
