Quote: Stringer faced some disgruntled investors who demanded to know why Sony was losing money. In the January-March quarter, its losses widened to 66.5 billion yen ($578 million) from a 56.5 billion yen loss a year ago...
Uncertainties about Sony's video-game business have weighed on investor sentiments...
Although Sony's electronics profits are gradually improving on solid sales of flat-panel TVs, digital cameras and camcorders, worries remain over the risks in the gaming business, which requires expensive investments but may not turn a profit for years.

Pioneer (BDP-HD1) and Panasonic (DMP-BD10) are scheduled to release their players a month earlier than Sony but this info may need to be confirmed. This website also has to be updated since it lists the Sony release as August 2006:

@ dnglebry .Your post was stupid anyhow cause you only replied after dblbogey7 had already posted a link and I didn't have that link when I posted. All I wanted to know was about the date if you talk facts then you should back it up with a link...I stay up to date. I just don't know everything.
@ipirate lol Yeah I heard about that.It was at the e3 presentation.Pretty funny.

Ty cobb
Im 100% sure that every time you make a statement that is a fact you dont post a link so just let it be. Its a LITTLE annoying that you disagreed with me then cover up your lack of knowledge by saying i didnt post the link.I said nothing about blu-ray not being released i clearly stated Sony pushed their standalone player back.

I think they are pushing back there Blu-ray player because it would effect there sales on the PS3.If i was Sony i would not release this player until next year. This player will hurt PS3 in the long run i think...

Intersting way to look at things but all in all that could be a good point. At any rate whos going to blow a grand an high-def dvd player when you can save $400 by getting the ps3 which contains the blu-ray player, gaming console, web browser and internet functionality...either The blu-ray player is containning jesus juice or the ps3's blu-ray drive sucks like its predecessor (ps2's dvd drive) either way we'll have to wait and see.Now that i think about it Damondash that doesnt make to much sense because people who want the stand alone blu-ray player will just get the samsung model and say screw awiting fo rSony so this doesnt help them or the ps3 in any way just makes things look sketchy...

it could just help reinforce or justify the pricing for the ps3, and make it seem as if its a great all around deal. i can see the ps3 being responsible for selling several Blu-ray films to people who may have had no intention on buying one, just to try it out or see what all the fuss is about. for me there are always going to be a few movies that i will want to pay for and own, but its still too early IMO to buy any stand-alone unit....

I think it will be the other way around. The lower price of the PS3 will probably hurt standalone BD player sales - maybe not at launch but down the line when there is more supply.
