My cousin just bought a V12 ps2 and tried the tape and tissue method, but instead of tape, he used super glue. Now the inside sensor is glued down, and the laser doesn't even turn on. Everything else works fine, but the laser deck doesn't start up or anything.
I've searched for similar problems and tried some of the easier solutions (which didn't fix it), so I think that he might need to buy a new laser deck.
I just want to make sure before he makes the purchase.
Any help is appreciated.

It could be that one of the sensors aren't actually closed even thought you think it is, check all of them to make sure that's not the case.

Also when he super glued that sensor, did he touch anything next to it? He could've glued something he shouldn't have or short circuited something too. Doesn't sound like a laser problem, cos if the laser is dead, the motor would be going back and forth like crazy trying to read the disc. Last thing I can think of, check the ribbon cable and make sure it's not detached.

You know how when you touch wet glue and try to pull away, there's a strand of glue sticking to you? He did that and tried to rip the strand, so it ripped and went over the laser.

I have also checked all the sensors and ribbon cable connections.

When you say it went over the laser, it didn't go over the laser lens did it?

... a couple of guesses..:
1) You've scratched the lens
2) there's still glue on the lens

Although that still doesn't explain why it doesn't move at all, it should go back and forth trying to read a disc...
