I believe the only thing that may work is the modchip, but it'd be way cheaper to buy the dvd of whatever UMD you have and rip it to your memory stick. There is a sticky post on this forum telling you how to do that.

Other than that, there's not much you can do. I have the same problem but with a region 1 PSP living in the UK. I don't buy into UMDs though, so it doesn't really affect me.

Hope that helps, peace.

@ wapak:

You have a few options here:

1.) Rip the UMD movie to ISO format w/ Fastloader v0.7, and using UMDEMULATOR or DAXZISO or something, launch the ISO and select REGIONCODE OVERRIDE. I don't know how this works, but why the option if it didn't in fact Override the Region Code settings?

2.) Find out what region Region Code 1 covers and find that update EBOOT. Hopefully, you have a v1.50 so you can find the 2.00 update EBOOT for region 1, update to 2.00, then find the 1.50 update EBOOT for the SAME region and use the MPH downgrader to change it back to v1.50 w/ the region you need. You don't need to worry about games b/c ALL games are compatible w/ ALL regions.

Hope this helps, dude!

Looks like region code 1 is (EUR). I found this on the net:
Quote:
"...in fact, the the European PSP (UK and Europe) is exactly the same model as the Japanese version (region code and everything)."
1st, look here:

http://www.psphacks.net/files/

This makes me think these are Japanese updates.

Now, look here:

http://www.psphacks.net/files/PSPFirmwares/

But what is really weird is the fact that they have three versions of (at least) the 2.00 update. I didn't look at any of the others, but there's a 2.00 Decrypted, New and Original. I don't know, but I would just go w/ the original.

Hope this helps. If you update and it doesn't work, try ripping the ISO in the first option of my last post. I think that would be MUCH easier for you.

In PSP\GAME, make a new folder called "UPDATE"; has to be in all caps. Put the update in there and then unplug from the computer. Go to the game menu (all the way to the right, XMB) launch the 2.00update from there.

are you in 1.50 or 2.50 emulation w/ DevHook v0.41d? (dumb question, but I had to ask as I'm trying to find out what the problem is)

can u upgrade from a 2.00 UMD? Do you have one/have you tried that? If that doesn't work, have you tried option 1 from my first response? I didn't hear you mention anything about that; that might work as well... There is no reason you shouldn't be able to do this unless you got a bunk EBOOT file. Try getting another one. Search Google and let me know. I don't wanna give up on trying to help you b/c I know you're having difficulty and I know whatever is causing the problem would be an easy fix if I could see the problem myself. Maybe you can try the PSP screen shot homebrew app... Try this, take a screen shot and post it so I can see exactly what you see when this happens. Maybe I can help you better once I get a visual.

PSP Shot:

Upload teh pic:

Btw, when you take a screenshot, the "note button" is the button you change the sound w/. The music note. It took me a min to figure out what the readme was talking about. I thot, "Note button....??" LOL

Good luck.

P.S.: I'll check back Sunday to see if you have any results and get back to you based on w/e info you provide.

1.) Rip the UMD movie to ISO format w/ Fastloader v0.7, and using UMDEMULATOR or DAXZISO or something, launch the ISO and select REGIONCODE OVERRIDE. I don't know how this works, but why the option if it didn't in fact Override the Region Code settings?

guano: how will i rip the umd movie to iso format with fastloader v0.7?

Get Fastloader v0.7, put it in the PSP\GAME folder on your MS. Launch it, (have the UMD movie or w/e in your UMD drive) As soon as Fastloader comes up, you'll see an option to rip the inserted UMD. Do this w/ no splits (Just hit X immediately) and it will rip. You have to make sure you have enough room on your MS tho. I'd say a movie is roughly 1.5-2GB, so you're gonna need a 2GB MS. If you don't have one, you can use the Dax UMD Dumper (Which I have never gotten to work) and dump the movie straight to your PC. If you need help w/ the Dax UMD Dumper, ask someone here on the forums.

Anyway, if you DO have enough room to rip the movie to your MS, once it is done, you will get a file called "MyLatestRip". BUT- make sure beforehand you have set up a folder in your ms0 called "ISO". (This is where the rip will go.)

You should extract the ISO into files format w/ UMDGen. (But you have to rename the ISO to "suchandsuchmovie.iso" or UMDGen won't recognise it as an ISO.)By extracting the ISO into files format and then recompiling, the ISO becomes smaller. (Why this happens: UMDGen's padding feature is off by default when you recompile whereas Fastloader v0.7 rips w/ padding ON, making the file bigger.)

How to use UMDGen:
Open UMDGen and drop the renamed ISO image file into the largest screen on the right side. It will become two files once you drop it in. (PSP_GAME and UMD_DATA.BIN) to extract, there will be an icon of a Disc in front of a piece of paper. Click it to extract entire ISO contents to any directory of your choice. Once you see the files in the directory you specified, keep UMDGen open, click the icon of the blank piece of paper. This gets UMDGen ready for a new project. Now drop your PSP_GAME and UMD_DATA.BIN into the same screen as before and click the icon w/ the Floppy Disc and it will save to any directory of your choice. Now you're done.

Now, I am only telling you this info from a UMD game perspeKtive. I have never actually tried this so your experience w/ this may differ from actually ripping a UMD game. But it shouldn't be that different if at all.

UMDGen:
http://www.umdgen.com

Fastloader v0.7:
http://www.hackmypsp.com/index.php?categoryid=8&p13_sectionid=2&p...

Dax UMD Dumper:
http://s21.quicksharing.com/v/6685989/umddaxdumper02.zip.html

I hope this works, dude. B/c if THIS doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you. But if it doesn't work, let me know and I will rip my PSP sample disc (that came w/ the PSP) to see how a movie-media-type UMD actually rips. Maybe I can help you better from there.

Peace,
guano
