I read in an article that while you can't 1:1 copy a CCS-encrypted DVD, you can rip or create an image of the DVD and then burn it. Does anyone know if this is really true? If so, how do I go about it?

2 types of commercial media:

1. dvd5 = 4.7Gb
2. dvd9 = 9.4Gb.

Blank media = dvd5 - 4.7Gb.

Now if you have a dvd5 - you only need to rip it and then burn as it is small enough to fit on a dvd5 = 1:1 copy (without encryption)

Using dvd decrypter in ISO read mode, this will create an image.
Then use dvd decrypter in ISO write mode and write the image back.
(1:1 copy without the encrytion)

If the dvd is a dvd9 - this WILL NOT fit on a standard dvd5 and would need to have either:

1. extras/subtitles/menus - stripped out (just leaving the main movie)
2. compress/re-encode to reduce the size down to 4.37Gb so it will fit on a dvd5.
3. or the product of both of the above.

dvd2one or dvdshrink will handle the above process - you will get a slight reduction in quality - compromise for re-encoding/compressing.

Hope this helps.....
