NOPE, not true at all~ :)

i've gone thru more packs of Sharpie brand permananent markers than most, ALL of my backups still play fine ( i use good quality media of course, THAT is more important that using poor quality media to begin with and then NOT using a Sharpie at all) :)

hehehe @movies27

you like dem' TYG02s huh? when it comes to DVD-R format, VERY FEW brands/manufacturers are "better" than the Taiyo Yuden TYG02s IMHO, seriously...i'm not even just saying that...i've used PLENTY of the RitekG05s that you love, i've had my own fair share of success with them myself, but they DO NOT HOLD A CANDLE to the TYG02s :)

I use and prefer Verbatim and SONY -R disc media only. The reason is consistent quality recording & playabck without flaw i.e. skipping, freezing. They are also I find the most compatible as well as the most readily available i.e. found at most major local computer office supply or electronics stores in my area on sale(U.S.). These are also the only two brands that I know of to make a consumer promise of quality recording as well as playback & archieving. With either brand thier is never a need to pick over their spindles for manufacturing codes or geographic manufacturing location i.e. MIT or MIJ. They both simply manufacture or distrubute quality blank disc media. On the other hand it is my opinion that +R media made by whom ever is far less reliable media with the most obvious fault being DVD player compatibility accompanied by the likelyhood of freezing and skipping. I use book typing if needed but by simply sticking to -R media, this in most cases is not necessary for me. I do use +R dual layer disc also made by VERBATIM or SONY and have never had any issues with these disc. These two brands are what I recommend to people when asked. As you know they're are other brands out there but in my opinion these two brands are by far the best blank DVD media found on the market today.:P

yeah!

Just as in DocTy sig.,use only the good stuffs and you'll stay away from trouble.Stick to good quality medias if you want your backups to be safe from any risk of data loss. So,for me it's the Verbs DVD+R "made in japan" and when it's made in Japan,it's made by ..........Taiyo Yuden!!!

The Taiyo Yuden medias are best known for their flawless quality. And once you start to use them, you'll ask for more and never going to use other crap medias again.

The use of a sharpie is the most suitable way of labelling a cd or a dvd.Using a sticker may result in the loss of data with time.Use sharpie which is specially designed for cd/dvd marking.

Yeah - Unless your gonna invest in a Epson R- series inkjet printer & printable Media or a thermal printer then sharpie is the way to go ! Paper labels -NO ,No,No !!! Sharpie pen cheap & effective not as fancy or attractive as inkjet printables but you don't have to buy Special (( more expensive media)) to use them . But to each his own I suppose ! Ciao!

Well hmm i guess ill try verbatim after im done with my hundred pack of memorex :( i got alot to go through, why is it bad to use inkjet stickers on your dvd? wont it protect the thin foil from scratches and causeing the data to dissappear?

Usually on a CD, the foil is on the top of the disc, easy to damage. Take a blank CD that is no good and scratch it with a sharp blade. It will flake off.

On a DVD, the "foil" is actually sandwiched between two pieces of plastic, one top and bottom. It cannot be damaged like a CD can.

And I use either TY or Sonys MIJ or MIT if the MIJ are not available.

Raymond

Cobrajet's explanation is exactly right. The trouble with paper labels on DVDs is that the paper contracts and expands with humidity and causes the disc to dish ever so slightly. This causes tilt problems that a 650 nanometer laser cannot resolve. The 780 nanometer infrared CD laser has less of a problem, and the solid plastic piece used in CD-Rs is less likely to dish anyway.
