i am new in this thing so i stick up to the guides here that i found great... but this guides always use freeware, and since sometimes shareware are better than freeware, this thread is for people that know the power of some appz to transform dvd to SVCD, not VCD will post them here so that new people like me know which are the better

IMPORTANT: This lists only accept the BEST QUALITY, not the fastest, not the cheapest, not the easiest, only the best quality

to go from dvd to svcd these are the 2 best methods: 1. smartripper, dvd2avi, tmpgenc. 2. smartripper, dvd2svcd and cinema craft encoder. Here's a guide for both: http://entiendo.gotnet.net

Canopus Pro Coder is good when you use it with DVD2SVCD! I still prefer CCE SP though because u can do like 6 pass encoding much faster and the quality is excellent!

DVD Decrypter (or SmartRipper)+ DVD2SVCD& CCE (Cinema Craft Encoder) will produce the best results when backing up dvd2svcd. TMPEnc& Canopus ProCoder are excellent encoders but a much slower than CCE!

Shoey :)

True Shoey but still Canopus ProCoder kicks ass. I dont think much of TMPGEnc though, has too many stupid problems!

TMPEnc gave me no problems encoding to svcd format Dela. TMPEnc& Canopus ProCoder too slow compared to CCE (Cinema Craft Encoder).

Shoey :)

I can't say that CCE (Cinema CRaft Encoder) produces better video quality than Canopus ProCoder, but CCE is far more the faster encoder

Shoey, i've have answered so many questions on TMPGEnc problems and have tonnes of them myself so sorry but it has some serious issues!

My fav encoder is CCE SP, not only do i think it can produce the best quality, it also is lightning fast compared to canopus and TMPGEnc but CCE SP sucks at encoding MPEG-1, TMPGEnc is the best for MPEG-1 IMO!

Dela,
I'm well aware of the fact that TMPEnc is the most recommended encoder for MPEG1 (VCD) as I've done some VCD sam[les myself although I've yet to test Canopus ProCoder. Besides, I only do SVCD as VCD video playback sucks (honest) and is a waste of time. CCE is the fastest but Canopus ProCoder& TMPEnc does produce great video playback for MPEG2 (SVCD). If one has a super fast processor maybe it's worth the effort to try TMPEnc or Canopus ProCoder and if the encoding process isn't that long then compare results. I'm referring to dvd2svcd (rip& encode). Maybe I should do some testing myself with my AthlonXP Barton 2.5 (333 front side bus), hd ata\133 and see how fast I can encode with the best settings... (hehe). I'm impressed with video playback (SVCD) with all 3 encoders and with a faster cpu, time may no longer be an issue. I have to honestly say I'm very impressed with Canopus ProCoder!

If you want to see for yourself the difference, I have 3 files posted of svcd and vcd. 1 svcd is done with CCE http://www.kennyhavens.com/donstuff/cce_svcd.zip
another svcd file done with tmpgenc http://www.kennyhavens.com/donstuff/iceage_svcd.zip

and a vcd file done with tmpgenc http://www.kennyhavens.com/donstuff/iceage_vcd.zip

You will need a hi speed line to download (cuz of the size 60meg+). They were all done with the best settings for the programs. YOU BE THE JUDGE!! I think you will find little difference (other than the vcd file)...

Shoey, I used to be a VCD only man until I got a DVD player that supports SVCD so i did a lot of encoding aswell and you can get pretty sweet playback if you mess around a bit. Nothing compared to SVCD but still something!!

TMPGEnc, besides the bugs also has a few limitations people dont like for instance, it doesnlt like to go any higher than 2 pass vbr and for some reason there is a certain amount of minutes it will encode and just stick there! I'm not sure how many minutes it is but i've seen it on this very forum more than once!

I tried Canopus ProCoder and was very impressed but I still have to go with CCE SP! But CCE SP is absolute Shit with MPEG-1 so if anyone new is reading this, dont tryto encode VCD with CCE SP, because it's basically horrible!! lol
