Hey guys I've read through most of the threads on here but wanted to get a few opinions before I order these.

I have been burning dvds for almost a year and have always bought the TY's from supermediastore (4x and 8x DVD-R's and have not had one Coaster yet). Well meritline has Verbatims on sale - 100 pack for 23.99 with free shipping. They are Verbatim 4x DVD-R's. If a few of you don't mind giving me your opinion on those I would really appreciate it. Here is a link to the dvds

Thanks in Advance

hi Peggy,

the Verbatim 4x DVD-R are pretty good too, while i can't say they are Taiyo Yuden good, they are decent...i'm somewhat biased in that i feel Taiyo Yuden make the best DVD-R media at this point in time, i'm not too fond of the Verbatim DVD-R myself, but they are very decent~ :)

the Verbs 4x DVD-R will MORE THAN LIKELY have this particular media ID coding : MCC01RG20, decent stuff, made in taiwan by Mitsubishi Chemicals Corp...but i would be willing to say that the valueline Taiyo Yudens which can be had for approx. the same price as your Verbatim 4x DVD-R on sale would be a better bet :)

you've seen firsthand that you have no issues with the TYG01/TYG02 you've been using (4x & 8x DVD-R Taiyo Yudens respectively), but if you want to try other "brands"...Verbatim is a good choice to see how well they work for YOU :)

peggy hi :)
you answered your own question really:)
why save a few cents when you know your Ty's work real well
even though the Verb's are about as good as my Ritek, i'd say stick with what you know

if you want to play it safe coming on ova to the TY side of things, i would suggest the YUDEN000T02s first, these are in fact MY PERSONAL favorite discs at this time and i have had and continue to have FLAWLESS backups using them...

the 8x rated are proven winners, the T03s are still "coming into their own," while IN MY OPINION they are probably the best 16x rated DVD+R media at this point, i will only guess that they will continue to improve as time goes on and more and more drives will have good firmware to support these newer discs~ :)

i know our buddy creaky is enjoying them (the YUDEN000T03s) over there in the UK, and he has equal success using the Benq 1650 drive (we both have a few of these drives, guess it kinda rubbed off on him my excessive burner/media habits) LOL

but, yah, if you want to play it "on the safe side" in regards to burner/firmware compatibility and a proven track record of quality, i would go with the 8x DVD+R YUDEN000T02s, if price is not a factor or they are the same price, you really can't go wrong with either...at least over here in the U.S. when purchasing media ONLINE, the faster rated discs (ie. 16x rated) are usually more expensive than their 8x brothers, so, if it's similar over there on the other side of the pond, you could save some money in purchasing the T02s :)

@txlady65

glad you have come to the conclusion to just "use what works well for you"...may you have continued success on your Taiyo Yudens~ :)

That is only your opinion or possibly experiences. It is not accurate for a majority of folks. Most recommend them right up there with ty's. If nothing else they are ranked #2. I can't vouch personally for verbatim dvd-r media but verbatim dvd+r media is all I use and prefer them even over ty's. I NEVER have any playback issues whatsoever. No freezing, pausing, or pixelating even a couple years after they were burned. I would venture to say anybody having problems with MCC made verbatim media, has other factors involved eg. fakes although rare, outdated firmware, or their drives f/w is incompatable in which case it's probably time for a new/better dvdrw drive.

Mort hi :)
how about that then, 3 guy's with a whole lot of burns under our belts
DOC loves his TYs's, you swear by your Verb's, and i use only Ritek
as mentioned above iv'e just finished trying 100 Verb 16x +r...50 8x-r and 50 8x +r. compared with my Ritek RO3's the 8x seem fairly well matched. not so sure about the 16x they appear to have a high spike right at the beginning of the burn (nothing to upset their playing and copying though)which in turn is making me a bit wary of trying the Ritek 16x
looking foreward to trying out the TY's when they turn up on tuesday. then back to my trusty RO3's

Hi gurnard,

Yeah I still prefer 8x rated media over 16x media too. I have to admit the ritek R03's have never done me wrong either, I seldom use them only because I can't get them in hub printables here in the states and I can usually find a sale on verbatim MCC003's for about the same price per disc as the riteks. Got my last 100 pk of verbatim dvd+r's for 23 cents per disc including shipping.

I could use ritek G05 hub printables but I prefer DVD+R media since I bitset and besides I got a bad batch of ritek G04's the last time I used em. Never a bad batch of verbatim dvd+r's and I've gone through a bunch of batches.

i like the variety of users here in this forum, media is like anything else in life, we all each have our own "personal preferences" :)

@ gurnard

which ones did you order by chance? didja place an order PRIOR to my response or you waited until i responded? LOL...either way, i don't think you will be disappointed...i personally back up the quality of Taiyo Yuden's 8x DVD+R YUDEN000T02s, they are MY "favorite media" of choice~ :)

@ mort81

hiya buddy, juss PM'ed you since we both have a liking towards the MCC003s by Verbatim, what i linked ya to is a good price with NO REBATES involved, so ya don't have to wait for it to come by mail...pretty close to your pricing when you bought them awhile back, i got some myself actually juss to add some "variety" to my burning palette~ :) LOL

i'm also going thru a pack of these Maxell MIJ MAXELL002 coded 8x DVD+R, so far so good, it's something i've come to expect since i haven't had any MAXELL002s in over a year...letting my benq1650 "learn" this media right now and getting VERY GOOD scans right now even before SolidBurn kicks in~ :)

@both gurnard & mort81

i'm very much in the 8x DVD+R media camp too, i also prefer these over the newer 16x dvd+Rs, yes, i have had success with the YUDEN000T03s and the MCC004s, but not nearly as high as my 8x YUDEN000T02s and MCC003 burns, i'm actually looking to find me some Maxell 16x DVD+R with the MAXELL003 coding..just haven't been able to locate any at this time :(

good luck w/ ur choices in media guys...burn on! FLAWLESS VICTORY

hi DOC:)
nope i waited until your answer before i ordered
got the TO2 fullhub printables coming, svp did'nt do nonprintable (which i prefer) they better be good at 38p a disc compared to my RO3's at 20p a disc LOL
@ movies27 hi :)
if memory serves me right you are a Ritek man, it's seems unusual for you to make such a sweeping statement about the Verb's, what problems did you encounter with them?

@guyrus, Did you try and back up those disks? I have noticed that a lot of bad media that is older is almost impossible to copy off the disk, but will play fine (On tolerant players and still not recommended).
Edit:Typo, Nack up the disks, I sure hope not.

we did??????? LOL, i'm sorry but my memory doesn't go back that far...please be so kind to rekindle the "debate" we had back then...i will be more than happy to oblige w/ a reply~ :)

was it along the lines that i was recommending that you NOT use Princo media and u told me to screw off? LOL i really don't remember...

at least personally, Princo has been one of MY ABSOLUTE worst media that i've had the displeasure of using, for yours to last up until now, you are part of a "chosen few"...seriously... :) i would be even MORE surprised if you could re-rip the movies you have on them NOW/today~ :) if you run into the CRC error upon ripping, then the quality of Princos is about on par with mine, but you are still ahead in that YOURS still play...mine do not and have long since been discarded in the trash~ :)

lemme know
