ps2 grinding noise(scratching noise)

I have always recently had problems with the ps2 and a grinding noise. Its not the laser. What i think it is, is the disc is not fiiting right on the spindle and the laser is actually hitting it. The noise is more of a scratch scratch scratch noise than anything else. Does anyone know how to maybe move the laser down so it doesn't hit the disc when it bobs up and down. Also i have messed with the white spindle thing behind the laser, only helped a little bit. Any help is appreciated otherwise i would have to buy a new ps2.

You were on the right track with adjusting the spindle (white cog).

If that didn't completely help, make sure that your drive is aligned correctly because you should be able to clear the laser.

i found the problem. now it sounds like the spindle isn't spinning its going then stoping, its liek the gear to spin the spindle isn't greased up enough. So i just bouhgt a new one of gamestop.com for 89.99. problem solved
