why on earth would you want to downgrade the firmware usually you want the newest upgrades, so why downgrade to something that doesn't have all the new options?? isn't there a way to make the loaders and apps run on the newer firmwares?? so basically if i was go out and buy a new psp right now chances are that i could not get anything to work on it without downgrading the firmware. would a new modded psp run apps and everthing using the newest up to date firmwares??

People that downgrade want to run homebrew(programs not designed by Sony). As more firmware updates come out, homebrew gets harder and harder to run, which is why people want to downgrade.

1.0-2.6 firmwares are all capable of running homebrew. 1.0-2.0 have a significant advantage, though, over 2.1-2.6 including more homebrew apps and an easier way of launching homebrew.

If you bought a new PSP right now, chances are slim to none that you'd get one capable of running homebrew.

With the new mod-chip you can install custom firmwares that allow you to use ISOs and Homebrew with the latest firmware updates.
