I am new to this and havent really got a clue so maybe u guys could help.

I took my bulky Ps2 to a local market and they changed the lid and gave me the swap magic 3.6 discs. The only game i really play is Pro Evolution 5 which worked fine up until a few weeks ago, now all of a sudden when i load it up after putting the swap magic game it freezes, get all the way to actually playing the game on the pitch but when it goes out of play it just freezes. Lent my friends copied pro evo (bought from same market) and i had the same problem, so i presume its not the game but more likely the swap magic disk. Looked at my disk and it is scratched, could this be the cause of the problem and if so is there anyway i can repair the disk by getting it cleaned or can it be copied on to my pc and burnt onto a new disk. if it cant be repaired can anyone advise me where to get a new disk in the Uk at a reasonable price.
Thanks
Jay

If it is the disc, it cannot be copied to your pc and reburnt. You have to use the original "pressed" Swap Magic disc.

However, if you are getting to the actual game, it is not your Swap Magic disc. It is either the Pro Evo disc or your laser. Try cleaning your laser with a q-tip and some isopropyl rubbing alcohol and then put it in again. If that doesn't help, it is more than likely the game. What media did you use to burn it?

I agree,
Clean laser (you could try a lens cleaning disc first before you delve in to clean the laser)
It won't be your S/Magic disc. It will probably be a bad media or bad burn problem and the guy at the market burns all games on the same discs and has burnt pro evo in the same method each time.
If I was you, ditch the market guy and get into burning your own.

you may also need to adjust your laser depending on what the problem is...: http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars/1

Flea market sellers usually sell their crappy stuff using KHypermedia CMC Magnetics DVD+R discs. Which are nasty! You can always reburn it using your PC though. If it isn't badly scratched and the original burn was good, your PC should be able to replicte it no problem. :)

OK I'd be careful with what you say here... I'm not sure what the exact interpretation of the forum rule is but I don't think the mods will like it when you start talking about buying pirated games

Another warning to the cheap: illegal copies are likely to burn your laser sooner. Another reason to stay away from places like those. The discs are so bad they stink!

Sorry guys, i am not familiar with any laws and and am new to this site. Forgive me for being ignorant then if swap magic is not to be used to play copied games then what is it meant for. To be honest i am a complete techophobe and had my playstation 2 for years always buying legitimate games, then about 2 months ago a friend says he could get me the cheap games, i went along with it.
Thanks

Swapmagic is for playing "backups" of games you already "cough" own.
Why buy backups when its so much fun to make your own? Its so easy! just start with DVD Decrypter and some good qaulity media. Read the stickies in the dvd backup section.
