not sure if anyone can help me out here. I have an AVI movie inside a RAR file. The RAR file has a password and I'm not able to extract it. Anyone know how I can recover the password? It's several characters long if that makes difference. First time I've ever had this issue.

I'm guessing you downloaded a movie from some torrent site. Sometimes people put passwords on the RARs for stupid purposes (advertising, etc). Go to the place you downloaded and read user comments or see if the RAR also contains an NFO or something that might explain how to obtain the password.

By the way... the DVD Shrink forum might be the wrong place to ask this question. :)

Whatever forum you grabbed the link from should have a password for the .rar file. People password the files so places like Rapidshare can't snoop and see if it's copyright material which they will delete. I hate the passwords too because I usually download a bunch of files only to realize later there was a password that I didn't see posted.

true, its often in the file name of the .rar file lol, is there a website? thats often it, is the name of the group listed? check for that too


also check the comments, open the rar file too, it may be in the file name of the files listed xD

Ya, sorry about that. I realized that after I hit the submit buttom but wasn't sure how to relocate the post.

By the way, you guessed right. It was a torrent site which I have returned to to review comments but none where posted and nothing is mentioned about needing a password. A read there's programs to crack rar passwords. I'll have to find one of those I guess.

Looked at the SUPER long title and there was a website. Turns out that was the password. Thanks again for all your help!!!!!
