I have upgraded my memory from 128MB to 768MB, I've checked the PIO/DMO modes, reinstalled dvd burner, everything I can think of. My computer still takes 21/2-3 hours to burn a movie. Please help me if possible.

More information would nice :)

1) what are the specs of your pc? (cpu)
2) What software are you using?
3) DMA should be enabled, check it in device manager or Nero info tool
4) What burn speed did you select?
5) Are you using your PC when transcoding?
6) Have you got a Antivirus / firewall prog running?
7) What DVD Writer do you have and what Firmware is it?

1.) I have a 1.3 GHz AMD Athlon processor, added a 256MB and 512MB Memory cards, 200 GB hard drive.
2.)I installed the Nero software that came with the Burner.
3.)DMA is on primary IDE, but not on DVD burner (secondary IDE.
4.)I burn at the fastest available speed
5.) Not sure about this one
6.) my computer automatically runs Windows firewall and McAfee Security center.
7.)Sony DVD RW DRU 710A. I don't know where to find what firmware version it is.

hey sssvirgo,

what kind of media are u using?
and
you might want to upgrade your firmware
here is the site u just select your model and click dowloads
http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/downloads.htm

i have a sony burner too DRU500A and i had too upgrade my firmware too because it wasn't reading to well. anyways maybe try the firmware upgrade, and the good rule of burning is to do it at half the max speed it says on the media.

If I am reading you answers correctly you do not have DMA on for your dvd-writer this is what will be causing your problem. Here is how to turn it on: http://www.onthegosoft.com/dma_setting_nt.htm

Turn off you virus and firewall this will speed up your time.

Leave the computer alone when copying a movie/CD

If you are using Nero Recode2 are you using high quality and advanced analysis, if so this will add to the time but it will give a better result.
