ok, I know that if it seems that people are checking into my computer I should quit sharing my files but... I had some "BayTSP" try to get into my computer 83 times tonight, Peer Guardian blocked them. Is it gonna help me if I quit sharing or do they already have me? And how do I find updates for PG anyway?

You can find updates from the program, open it and click "support", then drag down to "Visit P2P IP database"
I don't know if "they" have you or not, so I won't make any comment...sorry

That would be a tracking company trying to see if you have copywritten material on your computer. Since PeerGuardian blocked it, you probably have nothing to worry about. Rest assured, if they still got through, you'll get an email to that effect, asking you to delete the infringing files.

If you are uploading the fiels then the email wont just be asking you to delete the infringing files. They'll be bitchin all sorts to. Relax and dont worry so much. Keep your peer guardian installed. Its normal to have a lot of unsolicitated hots on a computer with statci, and indeed dynamic, IP addresses. Try to use Firewalls and you Peer Guardian at all times, set your security settings to higher also.

With peerguardian, they can see the filenames when they are listed in p2p search results but they cannot tell if the file is copyrighted or get any info on it! And with eMule they cant tell if you have the full file or just a part!

So if i understand hawkmck right if they do find copyrighted files on your machine they email you and give you the chance to delete the files? From what i have been reading so far i figured that if they found any evidence and wanted to prosecute a person wouldnt have any idea until they got the subpoena.

Well if they threaten your isp, your isp might call you or email you and tell you not to, or just tell u they got a letter about it, some of them really dont care from what i heard!

where can you see how many "hits" your machine is getting? Is there a window or a different application I would need for that?

Don't get excited by hits on PG showing up. You have been getting those hits all along but without some way of being informed of the hits, you never knew. That you are seeing these hits is a good sign that PG is doing its job.
If you are not getting hits, doesn't mean the PG doesn't work for you. Give it some time. Spy searches usually come in waves. Meaning that for a while you may not have anyone looking at your ip. Then a day, or a week, or a month later you are flooded with hits. It is not unusal to see 7 hits a second when they are trying to get in. To see the blocked ip's that PG has taken care of, bring up PG from the system tray. When it opens, the blank page you see in the lower section is where the blocked ips will be listed. You can also go to the log section and see who has connected to you by ip number and usually who has not been allowed to with a message of some sort.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
