Hi I've been using the dvd->divx guide on this site for a starwars ep2 dvd.
I had a little trouble with making the encoded wav file with cdex - it would come out all high pitched screeching. Managed to fix that by reverting to the Cdex 1.4 release. So I have good audio now! :)
Anyway I followed all the instructions perfectly, and started the two jobs (Original 2 pass, first pass + Original 2 pass, second pass). I clicked start and went to bed. In the morning 8hours later it had done the first pass with no errors but was just starting the second.
I went off to Tec, and came back 10hours later and it was at about 96% on the second pass. (Thought that was a little slow). Anyway I left it and it got to 100% on the slider bar and the computer seemed to be still working hard at it. I decided to leave it and went out for 3hours.
I came back after the 3 hours and the program is still on 100% but the jobcontrol and program say its still in progress. Argh!! I had no option really but to quit it. Nothing else on the computer worked very fast...e.g clicking a button took a long time to detect the click.
Why would it suddenly stop there? I have a 1.28Gb secondpass file on my drive (unplayable) and still 1Gig of hard drive space free, (the swap file is on another partition btw.)
The only thing I could think that I changed when starting out was setting the processing priority to high in task manager (I hoped it might finish the whole encode quicker).
Stats:
1.1 athlon, 384ram, GF4mx440
DivX 5.0.5 pro, not-ad supported
VirtualDub 1.5.3 build 16250 release.
Any help would be much appreciated. Would an earlier version of Vdub work better? What version number exactly?
Do I need to do everything all over again? Or can I load in the firstpass file, and it will still make a good movie?
This has taken 18+hours in computer time so far and probably 30hours learning curve on top (with cdex mucking things up first time round).
