Can anyone tell me the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R?

Someone from a fry's store told me that the DVD-R's were more for videos or movies, and that the DVD+R's were more for Data storage.
Should I BELIEVE them or not?
in the past of have used both types for movies which both worked fine.

DVD-R (and DVD-RW) were designed for video applications using sequential recording. These discs require initializing (recording of ID numbers in the burst cut area) after manufacturing. Data can easily be recorded on them as well as video files, and the discs use the molding of pre-pit marks in the disc for finding addresses. This molding requirement necessitates the use of two lasers to make the glass masters. The difficulty in making glass masters and in recording discs after manufacturing means slightly higher manufacturing costs for the dash format.

DVD+R/+RW is a design meant for both video and for data. There is little difference between DVD-R or DVD+R for either type of recording; but because DVD+RW uses a very high frequency signal molded into the data track for data addresses, these discs can be formatted and erased faster than DVD-RW. The DVD+RW format also allows files to be erased in order to gain capacity on the disc; DVD-RW's sequential video format does not allow that type of use--data can only be added onto the end of the disc until the disc is full. Erasing a file on a DVD-RW gives back no extra capacity. DVD+R/+RW is easier and slightly less expensive to manufacture, but this advantage never shows up in prices for some reason.

I'm a long time -R user, but I found booktyped +R works better across the board. I don't buy -R anymore unless it's a good brand and they are really cheap.
