I'm out shopping for a psp for/with a friend and we're driving all over the place checking out the boxes for the "letter" and we came across some that that didn't have a letter on the bar code at all. Just wondering if anyone has any info on what firmware that might be. They were not the value packs.

Luckily we also came across a value pack with a B... but that was US$350... so I'm not sure if my friend's gonna pick that up.

it's just sony's way of letting us know that they still have some control. I'm guessing they got rid of the letters so people wouldn't know what firmware they were getting. But maybe not; I don't know much about the subject.

Sony's never in control. No letter means it's a higher firmware than what you want. Plain and Simple. It's more or less likely that its a 2.6+.

Most likely its a 2.6 I just bought one the other day and it had no lettering. And it was a 2.6

the same thing happened to me the other day i found a box with no letters and after i bought the system and took it out of the box it was v 1.50

Yup thats what I was thinking as well, sony does try to keep on top of things.

@ reww - Did you buy the value pack?

I know I read somewhere that no letters meant a 1.5 (north america release) but I'm sure that was over a year ago right.

in these days, it's rare to find a 1.5 in a retailer markets. if the box doesnt have any letter, it is more likely that u will be getting a version 2.6 above. the 1.5 version was only limited time. now if u really want a 1.5 version, there are still some on ebay.

Ok .. so here's an update... my friend decided to buy the box with no letter rather than the box with the B. I told her she was takin a big risk but hey it was her decision.. and guess what .. she got a 1.5!!!

I couldn't believe it, she said it was a display unit that they probably had it sitting there right from the start and never switched it out so the odds were in her favour.. damn I'm really excited for her.. and the sales clerk was insisting on gettin her a brand new unit from the back...lol :D

Hardcore. I think I should do that; try to convince store clerks that the 1.5s they have sitting around are worth less and buy them for cheaper then turn around and sell them on ebay. Easy profit.

Yea when i got my psp box it has no Letter... The FirmWare was 1.50.....

It could of been a manufacture idea that came late into effect possibly after a newer version was released. I don't get why they would have no letter for 2.6's... =\
